The statue of him is really good, but the quotes brandished all over it and around it are superficial cliches that take away from Audie. Long-live Audie Murphy!
This was a nice surprise to find such a wonderful museum with a very reasonable price. The exhibit were well laid out and information was very easy to read. I spent about 2 hours but could have spent more if I read everything. The outside Audie Murphy statue and memorial grounds were very nice and provide a great entry to the museum. I will visit again next time I am in Greenville area.
This museum is incredibly fascinating! The historical breadth it covers makes it both engaging and interesting, and it has something for every age group (well, maybe not babies and toddlers). The coverage of local history is vast, including everything from the Native Americans to sports to industry to fashion to world war history. There are some interactive displays and really great dioramas. It's definitely a couple of hours of fun and sad and warm and curious and entertaining education. I tried to only load photos that did not give away the details of the displays, but enough to whet the appetites of folks who are looking for a great educational experience. The gift shop also has something for everyone. Give this gem of a museum a visit! It is certainly worthwhile. Hopefully, they can get their cotton mill diorama pulleys working soon. I would like to have seen that one in action, but unfortunately the pulleys were not functioning when we visited.
This is my next vacation. Audie is my favorite cowboy! Sorry John Wayne. As a veterans my husband and I have a special place in our hearts for all he did for our country. Audie you will never be forgotten.
