Ryan goes above and beyond to provide a rewarding and fun experience with his courses. His teaching methods are hands on, indepth and you'll never feel left out or left behind. Plus he'll patiently answer any and all of your questions! I can't recommend his courses highly enough. The survival course he offers is a great way to get outside and learn valuable, tangible, and timeless skills (and they might even save your, or someone else's, life sometime!). If you take this course then you too can drive your friends and loved ones crazy by constantly spouting off random facts about the plants and animals all around us. Thanks Ryan!

Ryan is a wonderfully intelligent and earnest teacher who loves sharing his knowledge of the natural world with others. His enthusiasm is contagious, and he connects books with the real world in a way that is fresh and exciting. Besides his classes, which are always very affordable, he holds free events so that everyone has access to the outdoors and his extensive knowledge. His hikes are also mobile classrooms so a walk in nature also becomes an educational experience. Highly recommended as a teacher for both children and adults!

It was a joy to work with Ryan on creating a custom series of classes to deepened my understanding of the natural world. We adventured into wild places so I could grow and learn through curiosity. Ryan has an natural ability to create a learning space for participates to safely play in the sweet spot of striving for a goal or deeper understanding while at the same time not feeling overwhelmed or like the goal can't be reached.

I took Ryan's Friction Fire course and absolutely loved it! Ryan is a true naturalist that really knows his stuff and is great at teaching it to others. We had a younger kid in the group and Ryan was so good at answering his questions and being patient with him -- you can tell he truly cares about everyone and their experience. I learned so much from the class about what makes good tinder and how to find it, the types of wood to use for hand drill, bow drill, spindle, and hearthboard, as well as how to carve, what kind of knots to use, etc. I took so many notes and ever got my tinder to take flame! I also have been on some plant identification hikes with Ryan and learned so much about various plants that grow along trails, and even what animal activity to look for. I plan to go on more hikes and take additional classes from Ryan as he's full of valuable information and fun to be around. I highly recommend his business for those wanting to get in touch with nature and learn survival skills.
