I tutored at Seeds of Literacy for a very short while. I have a lot of experience working with students of all ages. Since 1982, in addition to my full-time employment, I have taught and tutored at colleges and a career center. Before my time at Seeds, I provided one-on-one free-of-charge tutoring, to many individuals. I still provide one-on-one free-of-charge tutoring. Seeds of Literacy advertises the following, as class times: W. 25th Classes Monday-Thursday 9-11 a.m. 1-3 p.m. 6-8 p.m. Kinsman Classes Monday-Thursday 9-11 a.m. 1-3 p.m. 6-8 p.m. The following is the Merriam-Webster dictionary, definition of a class: Definition of class (source: Merriam-Webster dictionary) A body of students meeting regularly to study the same subject. Seeds of Literacy does not have bodies of students meeting regularly to study the same subject, during the times and days they have advertised. They do not have instructors meeting with students regularly to study the same subject. They have tutoring, not classes, during the days and times advertised. Seeds of Literacy does not ask potential volunteers to provide transcripts and/or references. It is evident, from students comments, that some of the tutors are not qualified to tutor subjects they are attempting to tutor. One evening while I was tutoring more than one student at a table, the Evening Coordinator came up to our table and asked me if I was a Vietnam Veteran. I said yes. Then he asked me if I suffered from PTSD. I did not answer that question, as it was an inappropriate question to ask a veteran. I reported this to the Volunteer Coordinator and it is evident that this was not discussed with the Evening Coordinator. Consequently, I can only assume that the organization does not respect the rights of veterans. It seems evident that most of the folks visiting Seeds of Literacy are 22 years old or older. Seeds of Literacy does not share with students, that they may be eligible to enter into the Adult Diploma Program, which provides free skill training and a high school diploma issued upon satisfactory completion of that training. Other institutions offer regular GED classes; such as Polaris Career Center, Cuyahoga Valley Career Center and Cuyahoga Community College. In your reply to my message, you did not address every paragraph of my message. Why would it be appropriate for the Evening Coordinator to ask someone if they are suffering from PTSD? Very recently, I asked the Volunteer Coordinator why students are not provided information about the Adult Diploma Program. Her reply was that the students there are not ready for that. You indicate in your response to my review, that at Seeds "Class Times" are "Tutoring Times". My question, why do you indicate on your schedule Class Times, instead of Tutoring Times? Does this have something to do with getting funds from the State of Ohio? I just noticed that your web site indicates that Seeds observes Veterans' Day. Does this mean everyone at Seeds gets the day off on Nov 12th? Why? Did anyone at Seeds read about the experience I had with the Evening Coordinator and take action? It seems from that that Seeds does not respect the rights of individuals and specifically veterans. Today is Nov 22nd. In my previous review, I should have noted that in the short while that I tutored at Seeds; I donated over $300 in cash, hundreds of dollars worth of educational dvds and donated many educational books. My plan was to donate $75 to $100 per month to Seeds. I should also have noted that I tutored during the 6:00 to 8:00 PM tutoring time (again, there is tutoring there, not classes). I gave Seeds and students extra time, in that I made myself available at Seeds from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday through Thursday. Most of the tutors were only at Seeds one night a week. Tables at Seeds each have four chairs. Often times, when I tutored there students came to the table where I was sitting. Seeds coordinators did not like the fact that I usually tutored more than one student at my table at a time.
