Try to go at an off time - when I went, it was packed with little kids running around. Very crowded and loud and not peaceful at all. Was underwhelmed for the $15 admission price. If youve been to the Japanese gardens in Portland OR or the NYBG - this just isnt as good. The gift shop was very expensive and cramped.
I've been to several botanical gardens across the country, this one is probably one of the smallest. They did a good job of landscaping and packing a lot into the small space, though. It's very well manicured, almost sort of artistic in its execution. Plenty of places to sit and enjoy the view (and there are a lot of great ones!). The downside, to me, is that it's so cramped it's difficult to go at your own pace, especially on a busy day. Some of the paths are so small they're really only meant for one person, so if you get behind a group of people moving slowly on top of people coming in the opposite direction it's a bit of a nightmare. The indoor spaces are also incredibly narrow. Lots to see here, just a little too small for my tastes.
I know it's me, but I don't get it. It's a pain to get to, pain to park and plants growing. There are lots of plants growing outside. Save your money and aggravation and go hiking instead.
