The administration of this zoo has no respect for the visitors. While posting hours of operation from 10 to 5 they can close at any time they choose without any prior notifications.
You are better off driving to Buffalo or Syracuse to visit there Zoos. We have been members for the last five years, and every time I go, I dislike it even more. The Zoo is very long, and narrow. They took out an old building 4 years ago that was at the entrance, which housed primates, tortoises, reptiles, birds. They replaced it with a log park, and they have just now started planning for it's replacement. The only thing that they have built is more places to eat, which is not the reason I take my kids to the zoo. You need to walk a half mile before you see an animal, and they probably won't be out. You never see most of the animals. They have placed an emphasis on amenities, and not animals. By the time they have the new animal buildings up, they will have lost a generation of children.
Very clean, plenty of bathrooms and spread out, so you never feel crowded. The playground and stream were a big hit for my kids, when they were younger. Now it's the giant log area. We visit this zoo more than our zoo in Syracuse.
The County needs to find a way to subsidize the price it's ridiculous
