Software like Respondus' LockDown browser handicaps students by preventing them from using any other programs / the internet. Real world jobs and problems allow you to use the internet to solve issues. Software like this is preparing students for a world that no longer exists. Companies like Respondus should be creating software that strengthens our educational system instead of forcing students to pretend they're living in the 1960's. I'll update this review when Respondus starts caring less about revenue and more about education.
I don't understand how locking students out of using their resources helps them. Especially if you are taking an online course, since all of the equipment is going to be on the computer. Now you would need to buy a calculator etc. just so you can take a test. Personally I don't like how you are being recorded, and basically can't do anything besides stare right at the screen. I understand that it locks you out of some stuff sure but why does it forcibly shut down Task Manager, personally I would like to know what you are running on my computer if you are going to lock me out of everything else. Being somebody that has had to use this program numerous of times, it has handicapped me for each test i have taken using their program.
