It's a shame that Regency Centers intentionally ran this shopping center into the ground, forced the tenants out, and sold it all to Alexandria. I can only hope that the amenities (grocery store, post office, etc.) that were promised to the community actually materialize. If Alexandria managed to scam San Diegans into turning an important community amenity into lab/office space with a single onsite restaurant that's only open for lunch, it would be a huge loss for the neighborhood. Contrary to what some of the other reviews say, the demise of this shopping center has nothing to do with the pandemic and everything to do with intentional decisions made by the former owner, Regency Centers. While they were working on "revitalization" plans, they intentionally neglected maintenance and left boarded-up businesses on the property to rot for years, leading to the decline in attractiveness for tenants despite the prime location. The remaining businesses that were doing well (including Bristol Farms, The Computerized Cobbler, Chipotle, The Boxing Club, Barnes and Noble, and USPS) were forced out at the expiration of their lease. I was certainly no fan of the strip mall format, but a strip mall is better than a huge construction site. A phased approach that allowed some businesses to remain open during construction would have been much better.
