Hi Ingrid, thank you for leaving a thorough review. It's really helpful to hear that feedback. Are there specific low-waste items/options you felt were lacking so we can take a look at our offerings? In regards to price point, we are also constantly working to find affordable items, too. With inflation across all industries this has been exceptionally tough, especially since nearly all our items are handmade and we believe in paying makers fairly. Generally the most affordable items in our store (and the backbone of our store) is our bulk refills and spices. When we do price items, we are conscious of not increasing the price of essentials (toothpaste, deodorant, etc.) understanding that access to these items is important. We definitely do not sell sage sticks, nor palo santo, as that is appropriative. We sell rosemary and cedar bundles, as we do get people in asking for them, but do not stock sage as we understand the environmental issues and cultural implications of burning sage. I also hope you'll give us a follow on Instagram, or attend one of our events. We are always and constantly talking about reducing waste in ways *other than* buying items. From clothing swaps to how-tos, and sharing upcycle tips and recipes, to learning how to process compost in our own backyard, I absolutely recognize that we cannot buy our way out of this plastic crisis. This store is very charming and aesthetically pleasing, and gets 5 stars as a plastic-free gift shop. However, as a zero waste store that caters to repeat customers and locals, I found it lacking. The primary issue is that it seems to fall into the trap that we can purchase our way out of climate change/excessive waste, which is clearly just not true. Its great to have a place to buy bar soaps, and I love having options, but is it necessary to have 25 options, especially when the selections in other areas are somewhat lacking? The price point also gave me pauseI am very willing to pay more for local, ethical goods, but some of the goods felt expensive enough to be pretty out of touch with the neighborhood. It ended up feeling more like they were selling aesthetic one-offs or gifts than realistic sustainable alternatives to home goods. Overall, Im pleased that Queens has a plastic free store, and I hope that its the first among many, though Ill continue going to Brooklyn for my zero waste shopping for now. Also, are they really selling sage smudge sticks in 2022? That is cultural appropriation and pretty questionable.

I checked with our team member who was at the shop and she was meeting with a small-batch local maker about selling some items when you came in this morning. I think thats why you werent able to get the attention, but please know our team LOVES helping visitors and sharing info about low waste and about our products. Walked in and walked out. I was totally ignored and they were literally standing next to me. They didnt bother acknowledging my presence at any time or offer any help. I was the only person in the store. No excuses for not being able to say a 1 second 'hi'. Many people multi-task and have meetings in stores all the time.

It was great to visit them in their new location on Steinway. They have lots of lovely goodies that are environmentally friendly. Prices weren't available for some of the products, so it was hard to determine the cost. I love the refillable concept since it truly adapts to their zero waste creed. I look forward to coming in when I need to refill my hand soap dispenser.
