Ive climbed with MAG and taken a few courses over the years; single-pitch management, ice climbing, traditional lead, and multi-pitch rock. Sam M. is a great instructor. The courses have a good balance of ground school instruction and putting the skills and knowledge into practice while climbing. Their courses are not cookie-cutter and boring. MAG is able to adapt the focus of the instruction to suit your experience level and goals. For comparison, Ive attended about 10 courses from various highly reputable guiding services and world-class/world-record holder climbers, and I highly recommend instruction from Sam M. at MAG for improving your skill set and abilities.

I had the BEST experience with Montana Alpine Guides. I tend to be a last minute planner. I had some travel plans change and was hoping I could fit in an intro to backcountry skiing day while I was in south western Montana (I live in DC). I reached out to MAG at the beginning of the week (Monday or Tuesday) and they made such an effort to help make this day happen for me! By Wednesday, they had a guide that was willing and able to teach me! Ryan Griffiths was incredibly personable, patient, and knowledgeable. I truly felt like I was learning to backcountry ski from a friend, thank you Ryan! He gave great advice, pointers, and instruction which left me feeling empowered! I cannot thank Ryan and MAG enough for the AWESOME experience! If I ever take the plunge into climbing or mountaineering I will definitely be reaching out to you all again!
