I purchased a Groupon here. In the meantime, I scheduled a trip that conflicted and tried to reschedule. Alas, they don't allow reschedules with less than 24 hours' notice. That's fine, it's in the fine print, so whatever. But when I called, the excuse they gave me was that they had already paid the instructor to show up for me. Really? I was the only person signed up? At the start of summer? I get that I should have been more proactive, but it would have been no skin off their back to be a little more flexible. These guys aren't the only game in town, and I will happily take my business elsewhere.

Wow Jerry that was very unfair. We were very kind and attentive to you. As far as the time to get on the board 6-9 hrs is very accurate. However it does vary with each person. Putting on gear, setting up kites, getting in and out of the water are all part of the sport and the lesson- these things do not slow down the learning, these are essential parts of the learning. As far as other schools they are much slower because they don't even help you in the water. We help you in the water which is why we get fast and successful results. You learned a lot and were getting there at the pace you could handle. I think the part that you are really missing here is that learning is a very fun journey. Everyone learning to kitesurf should remember that the goal here is to have fun embracing this challenge. Check egos, complaints and excuses at the door and enjoy the process, people, and sunshine. The winner is not the fastest learner but the one who has the most enjoyment learning the sport. Some of our happiest kiters were some of the slowest to learn, but they enjoyed the journey and were very proud when they progressed. Everyone can be a have a great time and be a winner. It's such a fun and friendly sport!

I had a similar experience as the other reviewers who said that Bart and the other instructors often didn't respond to my calls or texts For two of the lessons after I learned to handle the kite on land, only around 1/4 of the actual lesson time was spent in the water because lesson time was lost due to the instructors showing up late numerous times, taking forever to put on their wetsuits, and wasting countless time talking to others, the kites not being ready and we had to pump them, the instructor realizing the kite was bad when we got to the water so we had to get out and walk back to get a better one, us walking one way along the beach only for the instructor to realize it was too crowded and we walked to the opposite direction. All this trouble with lessons despite paying nearly $1000! Bart only gave a minimal partial refund when I told him about all the time I lost due to the instructor. Maybe it would be better if they just offered jetski and helmet radio lessons so that way so much lesson time won't be lost Before taking any lessons, I emailed Bart and asked to make sure that it would typically only take 6-9 hours of instruction before learning to ride on my own, and he said yes. Since then I've asked other schools, and they were offered more realistic replies by saying it would take at least 10+ hours of lessons in the water to surf on my own, but AFTER first learning to handle the kite on land. I remember that some of my lessons were on Saturdays, which I didn't realize were more busy until the instructors mentioned it when I asked about it. If they had told me that at the beginning, that also could've helped save me valuable lesson time TLDR: Bart and the instructors often don't reply to calls/texts; over half of lesson time was lost due to instructors being late, talking to others, getting new kites, walking along the beach and in/out of the water; and they are deceptive when they say it only takes 6-9 hours of instruction to surf on your own

Bart you are the best. First time to foil and with your help I was able to stand up. Thank you soo much for everything. I would highly recommend taking lessons at SOCAL KITESURFING AND KITEBOARDING. Great and very professional instructors. Shout out to Liam who guided my 14 year old daughter to kite and was able to go upwind after her lesson today. Love you guys.

Mastering the kite is the critical and fun part. It's not bungee jumping, its a sport and it does take some time to learn it. This is a great price much less that other areas of the country. Sorry you misunderstood, but here is the posted course description... it is very clear and accurate: "$200.00-Master the kitesurfing kites! Get prepared for the water lesson. No special athletic ability or strength is needed. The beginning Kitesurfing lesson is on the beach where you will learn how to master flying various types and sizes of kites including the large inflatable kites. This is challenging and fun. You will get your level 1 certification in Kiteboarding. This course will prepare you for the intermediate water course."
