I found Surge online from a review company that post dependable web development companies. The review is obviously outdated. At first glance, Surge appears to be a polished company however, on closer inspection I found them to be inconsistent and disorganized. I believe the root cause is "overwhelm". Ashkan Rajaee, VP of Sales (Business Development) rescheduled our first several conference calls or simply no-showed. Surprisingly, he is on the management team. Prior to speaking with him, I emailed him a detailed list of requirements for which I needed a quote prepared.When I finally did speak with him to clarify my requirements, not only was he late, he only set 30 minutes aside to discuss development of a major web portal. In our limited time, he seemed more interested in telling me about Surge then understanding the functionality I needed. It took over a week for him to provided me with a written quote that did not address my requirements but in fact was a compilation of my current website. (None of which I discussed with him nor needed). I never mentioned or gave him my current website address as this project was to be from scratch. The quote he sent me had a caveat warning me that the actual cost of the project may be significantly higher. Obviously, I was seeking a high quality quote as to get a ballpark estimate that would minimize surprises and huge variances in fees so I could determine rather or not to move forward. I now understand the reason for the advanced warning about the actual cost of the project. The quote Mr. Ashkan provided was thrown together with random numbers assigned for design and development. This lack of genuine interest and integrity displayed by one of the leaders of Surge suggests that my finished product would probably be similar. This is not a company I would select or recommend to others. I have 3 other quotes from reputable companies that are inline with the functionality I expressed. The difference being, they took the necessary time to understand what I needed before sending me a quote. This company may be surging forward; however, it is certainly doing so without the customer!

I've worked with many companies over my 20+ year career and I have to say that Surge is my favorite. Surge sets a high standard for their developers, which seems to be one of the secrets to not only creating quality products, but also to creating a great work environment.

The month-to-month contract puts the pressure on Surge to perform at a high level, and they are able to scale up and down very, very quickly. Highly recommend.
