Pasta tasting menu isnt worth it. Expensive and if you have more than 1 person its kind of the same size as ordering it for 1. Service is decent but nothing special. Expensive.
We tried to call and reserve, however we were left on speakerphone. When we went to the place, the short fat woman in the reception was extremely rude and told us that we had to reserve 20 days or prior. We told the lady that we tied to reserve but we got no phone answer. We were then kicked out and the lady smirked as we left.
Amazing food. We pretty much ordered everything vegetarian on the menu. Food was fantastic and this place is highly worth visiting. Reason why I don't give it 5 stars was because the food came out very quickly and all at once so we weren't able to eat at a good pace and felt rushed.
First time at Flour+Water, celebrating a pre-Valentines day dinner here. This restaurant comes highly rated and I myself, will now join that group of ravers . The menu was really well put together, they had a very mixed wine list (Domestic +European) - which I absolutely loved.. Some standouts we ordered: 1. Daily ricotta- I (we) never knew ricotta could taste this fresh. Took my first bite and was till the last. If you have some leftover- goes great w the pastas too 2. Rye Pappardelle + Cocoa Rutabaga Casconcelli - 3. Chocolate Budino - I mean the espresso cream on this is just.. I actually struggle connecting words to even begin to describe this. A must get. Service was a little shaky- but it was the restaurants first night back.. so totally understand the jitters. Definitely would recommend for your upscale Italian dining cravings- and we will definitely be back!
We were in SF on a weekend (live in the Bay Area) and were in the neighborhood and had heard of Flour + Water a lot so thought of stopping by. Luckily we got a place quite easily. Between the two of us, we ordered two pasta dishes at first but the server encouraged us to order another item as well saying the portion sizes are small. We thought nothing of it and surmised that since upscale places do have smaller portions so we ordered a pizza as well. Turned out that the two dishes were quite enough for us and we had to take the entire pizza home. At that point it was still ok as both the pasta dishes (especially an eggplant one) were really good. Till this point we were happy. It was after this that our experience really went sour. A lady brought us the check which came out to $90 pre-tip, and then proceeded to stand right in front of us staring at us expectantly while we paid the check. It was very awkward trying to pay like that. The options for tip were 30, 25 and 20% and it felt rude for us to be weighing our options so we quickly tipped maybe 20% but there seemed to be so many additional fees tacked on, somehow our $90 meal became $140 - we understand that you can expect a 20% priced tacked on but 50% was really unexpected and it didn't feel like a $140 meal and soured our memory of the place. Overall I'd say the food is quite good, but the service left a lot to be desired.
