I did voluntary work at a secondary school on behalf of Action Tutoring for approximately 8 months in 2018 while I was studying for my Teaching Assistant certificate. Whilst I enjoyed the experience I have since discovered that Action Tutoring do not cooperate when employers want to verify a reference, if anything they are extremely unhelpful claiming that they do not give references after so many years. Absolute rubbish what nonsence, how disgraceful to treat people who have given their time freely to assist in schools. I never missed one day volunteering and did not take any expenses paying for my own petrol. I received a fantastic written reference but Action Tutoring will not cooperate with a verbal one. Anyone reading this you have been warned! I would certainly advise you to think twice about doing any voluntary work for this organisation. BTW if I could give zero stars I would, Jane

I applied to be a volunteer with Action Tutoring both as a way of gaining experience in online tutoring of Maths and to contribute to the catch-up required on account of covid. My own formal educational background is more Art than Maths so I really appreciated Action Tutoring's flexible attitude in appraising an applicant's potential suitability for the role. The virtual classroom is very user-friendly and the online training given is broad-based, easy to take in and equips you to meet the challenges of tutoring. The pupils I've been working with have all shown good spirit in what have been challenging times for them. When progress is made, some insight gained, then that is very satisfying. There is always a little humour along the way too which is really nice. I initially just wanted to tutor GCSE pupils and had never considered working with primary pupils. Then the opportunity arose to teach at Key Stage 2 level and so now I'm doing that as well. My plan is to continue to volunteer with Action Tutoring in the next academic year. It's such a worthwhile thing to do, a life-enhancing experience all round. .

I've been a volunteer with Action Tutoring for the past term and everything has gone really well - they're extremely well organised, the support is excellent and the team really encouraging.The teaching materials and online platform make every lesson go smoothly. I've never done anything like this before, and I don't regret it for a minute. If you've been thinking about volunteering, don't hesitate!

I've been volunteer tutoring for a few months now, and it's very rewarding. The pupils are enthusiastic, and it's lovely to see them improve. I highly recommend being a tutor!
