Thoroughly unimpressed. Used car sales approach to mediation. Dodgy, unprofessional practice by the mediator. After submitting a formal complaint there was no action until I escalated it to an outside complaints mechanism, then the 'review' that was done was clearly a rushed, inside job. They couldn't even spell my name right on the response, talked about how great they were before they then used a bunch of excuses to say why they couldn't continue mediation, referring to issues that they knew *before* they started and took the $420 intake fee. Don't go near them.

The lecturers and mentors at the Mediation Institute were very professional and always encouraging in their comments. At times, learning the mediation process seemed arduous and difficult but the assistive content available as well as the willingness of the mentors to help made this process achievable. I would recommend all students take part in the mentoring sessions available. My mentor was Cynthia Brooking, and she was fantastic. The most difficulty was the role play scheduler and making sure times and participants were accurate. My only other comment would be to remind role players that while they need to be consistent and encouraging, they do not need to make the process more difficult. I would recommend this course to others in the future.

A long time ago while looking for a college to study Mediation, I stumbled across Mediation Institute. What set them apart to me was their passion for mediation, and that said a lot. I have always found that passionate trainers encourage me to be the best I can, so it was a "No Brainer", so I enrolled. Joanne Law's (and the institutes) passion and commitment to mediation rubbed off on me, and I am honoured to be part of their team, training new mediators. Having practised as a qualified counsellor for several years, I wanted to take the opportunity to develop further in a complementary field by studying mediation when I found myself living overseas. After researching options, the Mediation Institute was recommended to me. Their approach to teaching was perfectly adapted to the challenges of studying remotely in another country, as well as of course in Australia. The key is their flexible easily accessible online learning with full eLearning resources, backed by highly professional teachers who facilitate and support student interaction. Critically Joanne delivers in an amazingly innovative way which engages you as a student and makes the learning experience a pleasure to participate in. The moderated role plays were an incredibly valuable vehicle to build experience and confidence in handling the difficult and at times emotionally challenging issues presented in mediation. The interaction with current practitioners provided further valuable insights into these challenges. And once you have qualified, the Institute provides ongoing development opportunities in a wide range of areas. To me, though, the most important dimension to MI is the integrity and honesty with which MI delivers the courses and ongoing support once you have qualified. Without integrity, how can you deliver a mediation which gives dignity and fairness to the participants? I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with MI in a range of areas.
