We found a nice pickup posted on Craigslist from PBT Auto. After talking with Marcie we made the trip there and looked at the truck. After visiting another dealership we decided to purchase the Ford F-250 Super Duty. The process could not have been simpler. We had our own financing and a PO was written. We left PBT in Nampa and drove to Caldwell. We left Caldwell and shortly after getting past Nampa on the interstate the truck went into limp mode. Thinking it was something minor we continued on. I should have returned the truck then and there. We took the truck in and found that the high pressure fuel pump and oil cooler on the diesel motor were bad. The repairs were to the tune of $3,000 just to keep the truck running without hurting it more. After finding that out less than a week after buying the truck I talked to PBT. Marcie kept telling me that Tom, a diesel mechanic, would call me to get the truck back up there and fixed never panned out. I never heard back from Tom or Marci. I kept in contact but have yet to achieve any resolution with them. I bought the truck over a month ago, and have put less than 1,000 miles on it. The truck was $20,000 and so far we've been able to drive it for one week since the purchase a month ago. The truck was listed as mechanically sound in the ad. All the reassurances in the world would not get me back there. I only asked for them to pay 1/2 of the repair so we could actually use the vehicle before the first payment was due. I am disappointed. I would have prefered to have gotten this resolved without leaving a bad review but they didn't even respond to the BBB request.
I went there to check out some cars and the man I dealt with was Tom. After Listening to his fast talk and looking at some total lemons he started getting very flirtatious which made me feel very uncomfortable. After explaining to him that I wasn't a homosexual he went as far as to offer me a discount on a car if I went out with him sometime. Totally unprofessional, buyer beware!
I purchased a truck that was represented to be safe and sound. Within 3 days I replaced the batteries due to the truck not starting. Not a problem; that seemed reasonable. When the truck still wouldn't start I took it to a shop in order to have it tested for a draw. After much checking and rechecking the truck was determined to have a bad computer. It was difficult to find, simply because the truck would start for 3 days and then it wouldn't. When I contacted PBT Auto they were responsive quickly and suggested I take the truck to Peterson Dodge. They did however blame the other mechanic for crossing jumper cables and blowing out the computer , which I find hard to believe from a mechanic who's been in business for 23 years . Two weeks later it was finally confirmed that yes there was a computer problem so we tried an off-market computer / suggestion of PBT. In all fairness, Rocky (the salesman ) was attempting to save me money following my large purchase. When the computer didn't work we had to go back to the actual computer that's meant for the truck. $2,000 later I bring the truck home and within three days it will not start again. It goes back to Peterson having to be towed once again and it's determined that the AC condenser has to be replaced because that's what's drawing on the battery still. Another $2,000. I bring it home and I'm hesitant to drive it so 4 days later I venture out to drive it and it dies in my driveway. Once again it has to be towed back to Peterson's. Not sure at that point whether it's fuel injectors or what. A week later it's determined that the fuel injector pump must be replaced at the tune of $2,700. So far none of this is covered by the extended warranty that I had purchased. And PBT owner is only willing to pay $800 not even half of what the computer cost. Fast forward to 6 months after purchase.... I have driven the vehicle 4 times and less than a hundred and fifty miles. I take the truck onto the freeway and it has a death wobble which means I have no steering at 75 miles an hour with traffic and big rigs coming up behind me. In the Middle Lane on that same stretch the truck completely dies and I can't even get out of the way of vehicles coming up behind me. I have no steering and by the grace of God I am able to get off to the side of the road. Shaking I contact my husband Peterson Motors and a tow truck. I am typically not rattled by these kind of things but by this point I'm sitting on the freeway shaking and nearly in tears at the thought that I could have died. The truck gets towed to Peterson's and once again another $2,000 to flush the fuel system which apparently is so black and murky that the fuel can't even get through. I finally have something i can submit through the warranty though; saving me $800! Warranty doesnt cover the suspension however, nor the steering issue. Further research by Jamie at Peterson's determines this truck came from Canada and was on an oil field where clearly they don't take care of their Fleet. Six months and $8,000 into this truck now puts me over the max for small claims court. And although I purchased a vehicle for "as is," "as is" does not exclude reasonable and safe expectations for a $22,000 vehicle. Not to mention what is morally the right thing to do. Call me old fashioned, but that's not the way to do business and not the way to represent your word.
