BEWARE, poor business ethics and money hungry. I had been going to see Dr. Walker for a little over a year, primarily for contact lens. I wanted to experience the service before bring my family over. My wife and 3 boys all wear glasses. Back in October, after a routine exam, I allowed Dr. Walker to talk me into getting an exam for glaucoma as a precautionary measure, using scare tactics citing my race and statistics. I'm 47 years old. Of course the results were fine. It reminded me of the used car salesman who looks to sell you all types of insurances and warranties using similar scare tactics. Nevertheless I was willing to go along with it depending on the cost. I spoke to the billing clerk and she pulled up my insurance and said not to worry, I'm covered and all I needed to pay was a copay. 5 months later I get a fat bill for $189! Wow! I call the office and the billing clerk states well your insurance only covered a certain amount and you owe the rest. Ok, of course, I'm blindsided by this, and not looking to shirk responsibility, but I would have appreciated the billing clerk being transparent and letting it be known, we don't know what your insurance carrier will cover you may want to check with them prior to scheduling the exam... Regardless, My intention was to pay the bill this month when I go reorder contact lens, however, I get a phone call from their pit bull collection agency calling me at my JOB! For $189? Wow! Threatening to ruin my credit and demanding payment! They didn't care that they were calling a bank! I paid the balance in full today but will not be back! Dr.Walker, hopefully you will train and sensitize your staff around disclosure and transparency and not just "getting the money! "
Dr. Walker is simply the best -- very calm, friendly and professional. The office may look small from the outside, but they have all the latest technology and a great staff. The doctor really does take the time to make sure your exam is thorough and your glasses are exactly right. They have a large selection of frames and good prices, and they actually make glasses on site. You just won't find this level of expertise and craftsmanship at any of those national chains.
I bought contacts from this place and had a bad batch. The left monthly contact would rip in just a few days each time I'd put a new one on. Dr Walker himself seemed to not want to help! His attitude was out of control when this issue was brought to his attention by his employee. And no better when my boyfriend tried to get a better explanation. He finally calmed down and decided to order me trial lenses for my left eye... The contacts breaking aren't his fault but the way he dealt with it was a disaster! Ordering us to leave his establishment! I don't know why I decided to get glasses after this crazy encounter... But of course I thought maybe it was a bad day and his services were defaulted because of it. I went to pick up my glasses today and of course another problem, why didn't I see this coming?! Oh yea cause I'm nearly blind.... Well I can't see through my glasses. I told the employee this and she says I need some time to get used to it. I surely hope so! I paid for these things! I just know these aren't a good prescription. I've worn glasses before and I've never encountered a time I almost missed a step cause I couldn't see it! I could hardly get into my front door cause I missed the door knob on my way in! Just everything went wrong! I can't say I'll be going back to this place after this situation is resolved.
