My Fiancé and I visited the Halfway House at the end of May 2021. The place was clean and the owners are really friendly. We were staying for 4 nights to enjoy the cotswolds. We booked the smallest room which we wish we hadn't. Its really small for two people and you can't stay comfortably if you are staying for long. I think, if you were there for one night, it would be fine. The bathroom window opened up near the kitchen as there was a constant smell of frying food all the time, so we had to keep it closed. There is no storage space so if you have suitcases, you are living out of your suitcases from the floor. The room consists of a bed, two chairs and a table that is occupied with tea sachets and coffees, no full length mirror and not enough space to walk on the side of the bed. So we were even pushed for any shelf space, as there was only 1. There are no hooks on the bathroom door or even the room door for towels or coats. The only mirror we could use was in the bathroom but it doesn't have great lighting. The breakfast consists of an option for cereal, toast/bread or jams, full English or porridge. There are no fruits, or yoghurts to pick from. We ended up opting not to have breakfast on the last night as we had had enough of the fried breakfast. The prices are insanely expensive in the Cotswolds as the one day we had lunch here, the bill came to 30. We had two non alcoholic drinks, a ploughmans plate and a sandwich with chips. The final comment I have is that the owners, as friendly as they were could be heard fighting or having their disagreements publicly which isn't ideal. If we were to go again, we would not stay here for more than 1 night. This is a great place to stay for one night only. And perhaps that is what its built for, its our fault for not picking a bigger room, but better photos on the website would have allowed for us to decide that. You can see the family are really trying to make things work and if you are a local coming for a drink, its probably a great place! For us, it didn't make our stay comfortable and we would pick somewhere with a bit more space to stay.
We booked a table for 3.30 PM and called well in advance to change the booking to 4 PM. All fine, they said they updated it. We arrived slightly late at 4.15 PM as the GPS took us down the wrong side where there was a flooded road and we had to go all the way around to make it to the restaurant. When we arrived we were told the kitchen is closed. Nobody mentioned this on the phone when we changed the booking to 4 PM. Even if we had arrived at 4, we realistically would've needed some time to look at the menu and place an order. Nobody called us at 4 PM either to check if we're still on our way. Only reason for giving 2 stars instead of 1 is the lady there was polite and recommended another place we could eat (after we asked for a recommendation).
