Why would anyone give a 2-star rating to this well equipped, modern, and gorgeous 18 million dollar library in an excellent area with very helpful staff? One word: children. No area in the library will shield you from screaming, crying, jumping, screeching, and wailing of at least three dozen of kids. There is no room where you can sit down and in a piece and quiet read or study. None. Who in their right mind builds a children's playground in the middle of a library? A library - an establishment synonymous with peace and quiet. You spent 18 million dollars and could not figure out how to separate the playground from the rest of the library? Or at least soundproof it? It's like building a casino inside of a bank. So yes 2-star is more than deserved just on the account of great staff and gorgeous building. Otherwise, it would have been 1 star. My advice is: find what you want on their website, pick it up at the library, and get the hell out of there before screaming and crying eliminates your will to exist. But, this is part of the much larger problem in America with this "kid fetish", where every single establishment has to conform to "family-friendly" activities in which adults have to reluctantly participate. Restaurants. parks, public pools, museums, workplaces, picnics, state fairs, movie theaters, you name it, and now libraries. Adulthood has essentially been eliminated.
Every single review in the past 6-8 weeks are noice complaints about children. When will staff get involved and stop this? I come here everyday in trying to completely my homework for nursing school because its a 2 min walking distance only to be greeted by screaming children running around everywhere and no one even staff doing anything about it. Id love to get a hold of the upper management and get them involved and get them to involve their staff to ask the parents of these kids to take them to a park or something. Whats the point of this library if its just a playground of screaming children.
I would love to give 5 stars for this amazingly beautiful library but it feels and sounds more like a childrens playground. The childrens area should be completely closed off from the rest of this beautiful and what could be serene and peaceful library. Every time Ive gone there its screaming, crying and children running through the library. There is no peace or quiet, even in the secluded glass rooms which are open at the top and let in all the noise from kids. Something needs to be reconfigured, parents are not monitoring and the library isnt enforcing any rules of quiet that Ive seen in other facilities. The staff are friendly and helpful but something needs to be done. This amazing facility is being wasted and misused as a playground. Get rid of the childrens area and move it. Thanks.
