In the event of inclement weather, as was the case when we were there, Mammoth will issue you a raincheck for a later date in the season. So just beware that purchasing lift tickets in advance, while saving you some money, can be a bit of a gamble if you aren't able to use some of the days and you aren't planning to return that same ski season.
Their ticket policies are borderline unethical. I had purchased a two day ticket hoping to ski again Sunday morning before heading back to LA. All lifts were closed for the morning and most remained closed throughout the day. They offered me 25% off a future day ticket as compensation justifying it since a two day ticket means 2 of 4 days (its still valid on Monday and Tuesday). This business policy works against those who can only be their for the weekend and they know it. Further, their prices are some of the most expensive Ive ever seen and the value just isnt there. My entire group, who purchased one day tickets, easily came to the conclusion to never ski here again. Its almost the same price as a vacation to fly to Salt Lake, stay in nicer accommodations, and ski Utahs mountains which would offer more variety and better snow. Im disappointed because I grew up always wanting to go to Mammoth in the winter but have since been jaded by their business-only mindset. Im sure their response will be something about policies. A thrilling dialogue for a top ski destination
