I cannot comment on the quality of the harps because we were not able to see any. Although the website currently says that the business is open 10-5, the sign on the door says by appointment only. We made this a special stop while on a road trip to see and hopefully buy a harp, but the info on the website is incorrect. Learn from my mistake and call before you go!

Hello - the review by this customer raises a number of points each of which deserves a direct and thorough response. 1. Solutions Already Offered - Though this particular harp was more than four years beyond warranty, we very much wanted this customer to be happy with the instrument. We offered to repair the harp at no charge and to pay for the return shipping. Further, when we do have a harp in for a repair, we check over everything about that instrument: regulate the levers, change any worn strings, and make any finish repairs which can be reasonably done. This full servicing is always done at no cost. Importantly, we also let our customer know that this repair would, itself, be under warranty so she would actually be gaining warranty time. All the customer needed to do was to ship the harp to us. She declined to do so. She felt we should pay for all of the shipping and, ultimately, that she could not trust us to repair the instrument in the way she had determined she wanted it to be repaired. 2. About Warranties - One of the things a customer receives when they pay many thousands of dollars for a harp in our Rees Concert Harp line is a lifetime warranty. If there is a problem with a harp we take care of all the expense. This is an extraordinary warranty in the harp world where the average concert harp warranty is 5 to 10 years. In our Harpsicle Harps line we have a two year warranty which is equally ironclad. After the two year period, the customer is expected to pay for the shipping in both directions. We also reserve the right to charge the customer for the repair itself, though we rarely exercise this. In an effort to go out of our way to please this customer, we were not only willing to absorb the full cost of the repair but the return shipping as well. Kt C. declined our offer. We do not feel we could reasonably have been expected to do more under the circumstances. 3. Laminated Soundboards - We do use laminated wood on our soundboards. This is not the kind of cheap plywood but wood we have ordered from a speciality supplier, have made to order and which can be more expensive than solid wood. We use it because, at the same thickness, a laminate is much stronger than solid wood. This is why, for instance, modern building construction uses laminated beams instead of solid wood beams when making visible, lengthy architectural headers. Laminated soundboards are a common practice in much of the harp world. Harpsicle Harps are known for being light weight and having sweet voices. These two characteristics are directly attributable to the carefully engineered woods, including the laminates, utilized in building them. We would never use a laminate to be cheap, we use it because it is the best material available for the purpose. Our customers are artists and we would not presume to tell them how to interpret a piece of music. The entire team, at Rees Harps, works incredibly hard to please each and every one of our customers. Nearly five decades of experience guide our decisions regarding a specific harp repair. We applied our considerable experience and expertise in determining the type of repair this harp would require. We remain happy to repair and service this harp should the customer decide to send it to us.

Please Be Aware - Plywood failure of soundboard. I contacted Rees Harps in regards to the plywood failure of the soundboard of my Flatsicle lever harp, which I have owned for just over 6 years. I have attached photos that my local Luthier took and his observations. Rees Harps' response to the plywood separation was that it would be too costly to rebuild the soundboard, and gluing the soundboard would be warrantied by them. As my local Luthier noted, the continued separation of the plywood could still occur even if glued and by NO means would guarantee/provide a warranty that the Flatsicle would be playable in 6 months, a year or more. I believe an $800 investment in a musical instrument should not be unusable after 6 years. Rees Harps has a lifetime guarantee on their concert lever harps, BUT only a two-year warranty on their Harpsicle Harps. Be cautious in purchasing their Harpsicle Harps as, after two years, they do not guarantee their work. Kudos: They respond timely to their emails. Negatives: Cheap plywood used in the soundboard of Harpsicles. Harpsicle Harps 2-year warranty only. They require you to pay for shipping both ways.

I first heard a Rees harp in a St Patrick's Day concert at a local library. It was one of four harps onstage, each by a different maker. I had been biased in favor of one of the other makers; but that bias completely evaporated when I heard the Rees harp. The Rees had a depth and power of projection that stood in stark contrast to all the others, which sounded ineffectual in comparison. And the Rees had a true, compelling beauty of tone. At the concert's end, the performers invited any in the audience who wanted to come onstage and try the harps. I went straight to the Rees, and from the very first notes I played knew that this was the harp for me: definitely the best quality lever harp I had ever encountered. So, now I have a 36-string C-to-C Aberdeen Meadows, and could not be more pleased!

I love my 36 string Aberdeen Medows harp. It sounds incredible. I love the ornamentation, Garren did an incredible job its a work of art! I have had it for a year now and the sound is deepening and is so, so beautiful. I am amazed at the resonance. Its a wonderful, professional sounding instrument. I would definitely recommend Rees to anyone considering purchasing a harp. The team were lovely to communicate with and the whole process was stress free. I am very happy.
