Volunteers are rude, faced the worst experiences of bullying I had in my life on US soil in 15 years. Do not go there especially if you have kids. They are not kid-friendly at all.
I had a terrible experience in this place. It was a hot summer day and I went there with my family. I was wearing fairly long shorts (not some swim shorts or low inseam ) and they did not let me in. While one of the volunteers was kind enough to let me know that they prefer if people come in trousers, another lady came out and said we do not allow people even in the reception area. She was politely rude. I do want to use some adjectives for this lady, but will refrain because I am not raised to behave that way. I know enough about the life of Ramakrishna and Vivekananda and none of these two people would have objected to any form of clothing. At the very least, have them listed flashing on your website or provide people with a dhoti/veshti to wrap around. I am sure this lady is new and this place will have consequences because of this policy. And this would bring a bad name for such a renowned world-wide institute.
I listened the audio c.d of the lactures of Swami Tyagananda. And I observed that there is no comparesion of the lactures on Vedanda by Swami shri Tyagananda. The lactures are so logical, very clear and heart touching that I can't explain my experience in words. THE RAMAKRISHNA VEDANTA SOCIETY IS A GREAT MISSION. Thanks to all respected monks and authorities.
I actually went to the Boston Vedanta Society for over a year and I cannot recommend this place as a spiritual home in any way, especially not if you have a disability.. I am disabled and was bullied by a volunteer while waiting for my ADA Paratransit ride home. I spoke to another volunteer who told me the swami had personally ordered this guy to run me off the front steps. "Nobody is to be on the steps after the doors are closed, no exceptions.' I e-mailed the swami and he actually justified the bullying on the grounds that I had a "pattern" of waiting for my ride on the front steps, even though he knew I hadn't found out about this discriminatory rule until several days after the bullying happened. The following week, I was run out of the community altogether, seeminly as a direct result of reporting the bullying. So we're talking about a "spiritual" community where disabled people are not alllowed to wait for their ride home on the front steps of the building- the swami actually condones bulllying in the name of enforcing this rule.
