This is hands-down our favorite restaurant - of any type of food - in the area, or maybe *anywhere* since leaving Los Angeles. The restaurant is located in an old fast food building, but they have done an incredible job completely remodeling and decorating. You genuinely cannot even see a hint of the original tenant. From the floor tile to the booths to the beautifully repurposed playplace into an additional dining room that can be used as a private room for events, everything is sophisticated, modern, and clean. One of the things that sets Speedy Burrito aside from other places in town is their drive-thru. Most restaurants taking over an old fast-food building would take out the drive-thru altogether or perhaps just use it to give orders to customers that ordered and paid ahead of time, but they aren't an ordinary restaurant. The drive- thru is still fully functional, even offering a menu board displaying the full menu beside the intercom. The wait is never more than a few minutes, but the drive-thru lane is landscaped with bright, cheerful flowers and pottery - the effort they put into every detail is amazing! Their menu offers a big variety of custom Mexican staples as well as their own specialties. They are only one of three Mexican restaurants we have found in Joplin that have soup options on the menu year-round, and the soup is *delicious * My husband is terminally ill and often simply does not have an appetite, but I can always get him to eat the sopa Azteca from Speedy Burritos. I don't think it is on the menu, but one of the great things about this restaurant is their ability to go off-menu to create specific dishes for customers. We also love their Mexican Flag enchiladas, Fajitas Hawaiiana, and giant chimichanga! And a meal here wouldn't be complete without a delicious horchata, *definitely* the best in Joplin, and their rich, creamy cheese dip. The staff here is beyond amazing, too. The behind-the-scenes cooks must all be magicians, because no matter how busy they were, they get dishes out for eat-in, drive-thru, and delivery orders so quickly, accurately, and well-presented that it doesn't seem humanly possible. The service provided by the front-of-house staff is unfailingly warm, kind, and professional, too. I have to give a shout out to Veronica. I believe she is an owner. She seems to *always* be working, but I don't think I have ever seen her without a bright smile, and she remembers our usual order right down to my horchata every time without fail. If you've never visited Speedy Burrito, you need to! And if you have, then you already know that they deserve much more than five stars.
