Unfortunate no refund policy, even immediately after a mistaken purchase. There are no exceptions, regardless of the circumstances, which to me does not reflect well to the ethics of the organization as a whole.
On the last Alaska trip, during the first week of August 2019, Thomas had me rent a van to drive students in from the field, and did not give me enough money to cover the rental and refueling cost of the van, and then never reimbursed me for that expense, causing my bank account to overdraft. This was after he threatened, repeatedly, to throw my gear(containing my passport)into the river, and/or bay during a drunken tirade, during which I was the subject of extensive verbal abuse, via text and phone call. I was also promised a small payment for the work of driving students to and from the field. Despite the burden of liability for that task being placed on my personal auto insurance; To date I have not been paid back for the expenses, nor received said additional small payment. In addition, through the entire course, he demonstrated little concern for students, staff, instructors or trainees or their welfare. I paid for a gold membership, with the goal of becoming an instructor, and will now never graduate the program, or be able to make back the money invested in pursuing that goal.
Thomas is the real deal. He knows the bush because he had to in order to survive in his line of work. He will train you, he will get you ready and he will make it a fun challenge.
I have taken two of Thomas Coyne's courses and I highly recommend them. He knows his material and the courses are "hands on" training". Well worth the money.
Great program with great instructors. Became a lifetime member!
