If the opposing party wishes to fight you and pay to do so, there is increased cost as all attorneys charge by the hour. I was told with my $3500 Retainer fee I would have a judgment for some custody of my daughter, I was never told it was going to cost me $6000 after all was said and done. That's with 1 actual court appearance. They charged me another 2500 even after expressing that I didn't have much extra funds. Just got my last bill of 375 another expense I wasn't told I might have. Now unless I pay the money I don't have, they will put my case on administrative hold. Sounds like extortion to me!

I called in inquiring about a divorce and how it all happens. I had 2 people call me back with in a hour and in a hour maybe 2 I was talking with the lawyer. I highly recommend him and his staff. They are curious, prompt and they care. Divorce is the hardest thing we will go through minus losing a kid and his team will be retained. He even called me back himself the next day to see how I was. Great service.

Unfortunately this review contains gross misunderstanding of the law and facts at hand, and the allegations are inaccurate and misleading, but this review will be used as an opportunity for prospective clients to review and understand the importance of clear and accurate communication with your attorney. This review should also serve as an opportunity for a prospective client to understand how important it is to update your attorney with your correct contact information during the pendency of representation. Ms. Avery hired our law firm to register a foreign order in Texas in June of 2021. She did not hire our law firm to represent her in pending litigation in Michigan and no one in this law firm advised Ms. Avery that they were licensed to practice in another state. At the time that Ms. Avery hired our law firm to register the foreign judgments from Michigan we were not aware of any active litigation that would hinder our ability to facilitate that. Michigans registrar of actions confirmed our position. Upon receipt of correspondence from Ms. Avery regarding a hearing date in Michigan we refrained from further substantive work on this case save and except obtaining certified copies of the foreign judgements we were hired to register in Texas because we do not practice law in Michigan. Ms. Avery was advised numerous times that we are not licensed to practice law in Michigan and expressed confidence the day prior to her hearing in Michigan that the court would deny jurisdiction again and we would proceed forward in Texas as planned. Jurisdictional issues require extensive knowledge of the law at hand and is a difficult area of the law for a layperson to understand. Additionally, Sarah Robbins, the lead attorney assigned to handle Ms. Averys case, attempted to contact Ms. Avery on at least three separate occasions over the course of three weeks via telephone and received no response from Ms. Avery. At a later date we found out that in fact, Ms. Avery had obtained a new telephone number and failed to update our law firm with her new contact information. The lack of responsive communication was due to Ms. Averys failure to update our law firm with her correct contact information and not due to the inaction of Sarah Robbins.

Desiree Hartwigsen lies during consultations and will call you from her "direct" line and state that she has NO record of the recording because she called from her direct line. I contacted several law firms in the Tarrant County area inquiring as to whether there was an attorney licensed to practice in Michigan. Desiree was the only attorney that stated "yes." I paid her $3,000 on 06/15 and sent Sarah Robbins my notice of a court hearing scheduled for 07/19 @ 9am via Zoom call in Michigan. The notice of hearing was sent to Sarah Robbins on 06/23 and Sarah sent me an email on 06/24 acknowledging my court hearing. I also sent Sarah follow-up emails and information pertaining to my case. Sarah contacted me back one time and left a voice-mail. I tried to get in contact with Sarah for 2 weeks as she NEVER responded to my emails. Eventually, I had to email Desiree to find out what was going on an again stated that I was trying to reach Sarah to discuss my upcoming court hearing. Desiree sent me an email referencing using the Calendy scheduling option and also stated that she had just check my file and saw that Sarah had sent me correspondence that day. I emailed Desiree back and informed her that NO correspondence or voice-mails had been received. Once I asked for a refund of my retainer, all of a sudden I was able to get an appointment with Sarah on 07/15 and found out that Sarah claimed she had been calling the wrong number even though she had left me a voice-mail at the right number! Also, it was at that time that Sarah stated she could not represent me because she was not licensed to practice in Michigan and that I could just ask the judge to have my case registered in Texas. I was devastated. I went to court on 07/19 with no attorney. The judge reset the hearing to 08/20 and said she was giving me time to get a Michigan attorney! I contacted Desiree and left a voice-mail for Sarah on 07/19. Sarah never returned my call. On 07/20 I email Desiree asking if some mistake had been made that resulted in me not being assigned to an attorney that could practice in Michigan as I specifically asked during the consultation. Desiree immediately started lying stating that she NEVER said she could practice in Michigan and that she would agree to disagree. I asked if the conversation was recorded and she stated some of them were and that she would have to find it. She stated that she could give me a partial refund of my retainer but refused a full refund. She then stated she would charge me for additional communication with her. Desiree's deceitful behavior is the epitome of unethical legal practices. There was absolutely no reason for her to do this to me. She blatantly lied to get my retainer, was informed almost a month prior about my Michigan hearing date, exchanged emails with me regarding the hearing prior to the hearing, and then I was informed I would not have a lawyer for the hearing. This law firm didn't even have enough decency to allow me time to retain another attorney for my hearing to represent me. All Desiree wants to do is argue and talk tough nonsense in emails about keeping the retainer money which is a testament to her greed and character. I filed a complaint on her with the state bar and a fraud complaint on this law firm as well. I strongly recommend that you have record any and all conversations with anyone associated with this law firm as it is completely legal in the state of Texas. Prior to giving them any money, ask to look over their legal contract as well. If your instinct tells you their not to be trusted, seek legal representation elsewhere. Update: 10/01/2021...Allegedly, I don't have an understanding of the law, but I understood they were behaving like common crooks AND got ALL my money back!! Every one of my $3000.00. They will try to bully and intimidate you but stand your ground! And I'm still waiting to see what the State Bar does about Desiree Hartwigsen! This law firm has exploited too many vulnerable people and it's time to hold them accountable!!!
