Thank you for your review and for confirming that we provided you with good legal representation. Retaining an attorney is expensive. We try to give our clients an estimate regarding the legal work that needs to be performed, however, we can never guarantee with certainty how the case will progress and the fees that will be incurred. Unfortunately in your case you decided to represent yourself initially. Once we were retained we had to do substantial work to repair your case and prepare it for trial. We frequently see this occur in cases, like yours, where parties choose to use paralegal services or allow others who are not authorized to practice law to assist with the preparation of their paperwork. Had you retained one of our attorneys from the beginning, preparing your case for trial could have been done properly and likely more cost effectively

While I cannot say that the attorney my husband and I worked with in this firm was ineffective I would have to say that their billing practices were absolutely outrageous. My husband and I had done most of the work ourselves and decided to get an attorney involved for the hearing. We hired an attorney at this firm in late November as our hearing was scheduled for 12/11. Between then and our hearing they managed to somehow charge us an excess of $4,500 dollars!!! $2500 of which they needed before showing up for our hearing which was in 5 Days.. imagine the stress. After our they hearing managed to find another 2500 to bill and stated that we were only going to incur more chargers and would not complete our case until another $2500 was paid. After explaining our financial situation (which they already knew because of our hearing) we were offered to come up with $1200 in 7 days and pay $250 a month for the rest or we'd be sent to collections. How an attorney can rack up over $7000 in less than 30days is baffling. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody ever which is unfortunate because I believe the attorney did good work just very greedy and the legal system is bad enough without an attorney who's trying to make a profit out of your misery.
Ms. Aleman, your case did become quite expensive. However, this was your choice. Every step of the way I advised you on the costs of proceeding and the likely outcome. You continuously chose to litigate which increased your costs. I approach every case and try to help my clients find resolution outside of court if that is possible. I also explain to my clients the costs associated with certain actions so that they can be prepared. You were aware of these costs and nevertheless chose to proceed forward and litigate a highly contested custody case for one year, so yes, as I advised, it became expensive. I eventually terminated my representation of you because you wanted to continue to proceed with litigation, you were not listening to my advice, and I knew that the costs would continue and you would not receive the outcome you wanted.
I highly recommend Laurn and her staff to anyone looking for a legal team that represents her clients interest and is highly respected by the family court judges. Speaking from my personal experience with a high conflict case, Laurn has been proven to be an honest, straight forward, aggressive, and on point for fighting for my child's rights, even when fighting what seems to be an uphill battle she has proven to come out ahead. Laurn's group of professional staff that represents my child's rights have a huge heart, they are warm, they are kind. They have treated my family with the kind of love you expect from a family member. They are all fully vested in the success of my case. I love this group of professionals because They have given me peace of mind when things look grim. This is not easy to think that your at this point of needing a lawyer, but my personal story shows laurn was the right lawyer at the right time.
I can not begin to say enough positive things about Lauren and her staff. Lauren represented me for 8 months in what even the judge calls one of the most difficult cases hes seen in his years on the bench in Nevada. Lauren is very professional, she knows how to represent in the court room. Shes very personal and responsive and made me feel like a person and not just a another case file. Ashley, was always available to answer any questions I had and lovely to deal with. I highly recommend using Lauren as your attorney.
In order to effectively advocate for my clients I must continue to maintain frequent communication with them, which I strive to do. I am not able to effectively advocate for my clients when the client refuses to respond to my emails or communications and I am not able to advance their case. When this situation occurs ethically I must withdraw from the case. Moreover, at the time I represented you (over one year ago) I was pregnant and about to go on maternity leave, which I presume is the "personal issue" you refer to. I repeatedly advised you of my maternity leave and how I would not able to continue to represent you and could not transition your case to another attorney if you were not going to respond to my communications. Finally, I accepted your case as a pro bono attorney. Not all attorneys are willing to take on family law cases on a pro-bono basis, however, I have represented a number of pro bono clients. Your comment serves to make me and other family law attorneys less inclined to take pro bono cases.

I would hardly call Lauren Berkich compassionate OR professional. She completely dropped the ball on my case, was cold and impersonal, and then completely withdrew when her own personal life got in the way.
