I was really hoping to be able to talk to a retired Captain John who somehow rustled up some money to buy a motel. I was hoping to here hear tales of the sea as I checked in, but no Captain John. Great location for fishing and sight seeing and dog friendly. Really close to restaurants and coffee. I highly recommend Bayside Coffee.
Pros: Clean and comfortable. Fridge and microwave in the room. Nice location. We could hear the sea lions barking. Complimentary coffee and packaged sweet rolls in the lobby. Close to good restaurants. Friendly staff. Nice price. Cons: No coffee maker in the room. Thin walls, the guest next to us sounded as if he was in our room. No air-conditioner or fan. It's cool and breezy by the ocean, but sometimes a fan is nice to drown out the noise of other guests. Internet was hit-and-miss. Bathroom faucet was kind of "seized" with age, and was hard to use. The pros outweighed the cons, for us anyway. We don't need fancy amenities to have a nice time. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to staying here again in the future!
Decent beds, bathtubs, kitchenettes, clean rooms, super nice hotel staff. You can walk to a lot of nearby restaurants or watch the fishing boats go out and come back. There's a fish market right on the docks and if you go out past charter boats, there's a jetty with a little beach that overlooks the harbor mouth! There isn't really a view from the motel itself -- it's not super fancy but it's nice and it's cheap and walkable to a bunch of cool places.
Great deal for the price. We stayed one night in a queen bed room. Not the biggest room, but with the decent sized tv, fridge, microwave and table w/2 chairs we also still had enough room for my 1 year old's playpen and my toddler's air bed and plenty of room to still walk around the room just fine. Will definitely be back. Might even use the kitchen option next time if we stay longer than one night.
The other reviews amaze me given our radically different experience. Maybe they save the room that we stayed in for pet owners, but I have never had a worse experience. We almost left, choosing to pay for another room somewhere else, but it was pretty late before we really took a look around. The room was nothing short of revolting. The carpets were so filthy and stained that we wouldn't even take off our shoes. The room smelled musty and unpleasant. We found it ironic that they had signs about taking an inventory of the linens as they were also very stained. I went to plug in the lamp and found it to be one of the oldest electrical plugs I've ever seen and the cord was wrapped in electrical tape - not safe! I wish I could add photos to this review! Pet owners beware, even though this hotel advertises as pet friendly, there are very few areas to walk your dog to do it's business - almost all of the grassy areas were marked "no trespassing" or with signs that indicated the dogs weren't welcome to use it - not that you had to pick up any deposits, but that you couldn't use it at all. The only redeeming feature was it's proximity to the state parks/beach access, but you'd be better off sleeping in your car!
