Customer brought in a 331 Hemi. As per the notes on our invoice, the customer requested the following: CLEAN BLOCK, CHECK MAIN BORES, WANTS BORED 040 IF POSSIBLE, CHECK CRANK, CHECK HEADS - GIVE ESTIMATE TO MACHINE FOR CUSTOMER ASSEMBLY" Upon cleaning & inspection, it was discovered that the #2 and #4 main caps for the block were the wrong caps. The block was already bored to .040 oversize. The heads needed a complete valve job (including guides and seats) as well as all three gasket surfaces (head gasket, intake, and exhaust) sides resurfaced. Crankshaft was found to be standard with some wear on the thrust surface, but would need ground to .010 on the rod journals and .010 on the main bearings. Connecting rods should be resized on big ends & pin bushings. An estimate was provided to the customer on all of the block work with the exception of replacement main bearing caps & the machine work to fit them, as it would need to be outsourced to another facility for that operation as we do not have the equipment and tooling to perform that part of the job. An estimate was additionally provided on rebuilding the heads, resizing the rods, and grinding the crankshaft. Customer does not seem to understand that replacing main caps is not as simple as ordering a set of caps and installing. They must be machined to fit. Customer also does not seem to understand that rust pitting in cylinders can cause a cylinder to need sleeved regardless of whether or not an additional oversize is available. This would need to be evaluated, we simply told the customer sleeves were a potential possibility. Customer apparently did not like the sounds of the estimate, as they asked us to send them the bill for the cleaning & inspection, which we did. We were paid, and customer came several months later to pick up the cleaned engine. When the customer got home, they apparently felt the need to hop on google and leave a 1 star review, without giving us any opportunity to answer any questions they may have had. Upon a phone call asking for an explanation to the poor review, customer was rude and refused to have a conversation, hanging up on me after saying maybe we could come up there and do this face to face. Customer states wont go back. Dont worry, we are happy to have you stay away. We will not waste any more time with you.
Just got off the phone with someone at the shop. Maybe today was rough on whoever I spoke to or maybe it was me. Whatever the situation was, the conversation wasn't great. I got off the phone feeling like I had more to say but I knew the person wasn't interested. From my understanding they are " not interested " in working on my car because I travel for work. I told the gentleman I move to Denver in one month. I told him I would be there for 3 months. What I didn't get to finish saying is I would be gone for 2 months than be back for 4 months. This is normal for me and i spend a most my time in Denver. Anyways, The gentleman said I'm not local so he can't take the job. I also asked if there was someone else that he might recommend in the area and this question seemed to have agitated him. The reviews here are good and I'm sure that they do amazing work. I just will never know because I'm apparently not local.
What a great local find and a wonderful experience! While working on a head gasket replacement for my vehicle, I found myself in need of having my cylinder heads cleaned and machined, and having the valves checked. JAMSI was able to get me in right away and turned the heads back to me in under a week, which allowed me to pull them one weekend and reinstall the next. Super professional, very kind and so easy to work with, I really cant recommend the fellas at JAMSI enough! Oh, and to top it all off, their pricing is better than any of the other local shops I checked with. Well worth the drive from FoCo for the quality, care and assurance.
