It's a pretty place, with several impressive petrified trees, including some real sizeable specimens. But it's not too big, maybe a mile of trails, and fairly expensive for what it offers
After visiting the Napa wineries we decided to stop into this tourist attraction which is located off the beaten path. Interesting short tour of this once flourishing forest of giant trees, which succumbed after a volcanic explosion which occurred thousands of years ago. The plumb from this blast covered the trees in debris and ash until their discovery eyonze later. Seniors got in for $11.00 and adults were $12.00. They have guided tours but only @ certain times which we didn't make on this date. The trees can still be identified even after turning to stone with their rings still visible. Good place to bring the kids for a history lesson....
This attraction is well worth a little time to see. Very enjoyable walk through the forest to view this historical site. Amazing history to read and see first hand. Visit the gift shop and pick up a piece of petrified wood as a souvenir. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit.
Hi! Were so sorry for the inconvenience and understand your frustration. Unfortunately we had to close early that day due to a medical emergency. There would have been no one available to close the park at the regular hours so we had to close at the end of the first shift. If you are ever interested in returning we would gladly waive the admission fee for your group due to this inconvenience. If you have any questions feel free to email or call us at [email protected] (707)942-6667

We wanted to and had planned on seeing the park. Sadly when we got there at 4pm they had a small sign saying they were closed despite the official sign saying they were open until 6pm. I inquired at the entrance and was told due to one staff member being injured they could not operate. Why one persons absence would close an entire park is beyond me. It was very disappointing and frustrating. I dont know why the man at the counter couldnt help us. It was our only day to visit it. A post online or better staffing could have definitely helped out. Would not recommend to anyone looking to plan ahead.
