This is a comment about service my Mother and I received. We took advantage of a generous $50 dollar digital visa rebate for just checking a car out. My mom is retiring from Los Angeles County and she wants a bigger car than the civic she has owned for 20 years. We have the Subaru Outback, Honda CRV and a few other's on our list to see, look at, test drive, compare all that. I found this rebate offer from the main national Subaru website and gladly put them first in our list. We visited and walked away liking the Outback and were thrilled at the price/features. But our customer service experience was obtuse and confusing. I drove my mom to the local Subaru dealership, she went ahead to see the front receptionist to clarify the gift card code we received by text. I was looking at one of the Outbacks when she walks back to my direction a minute later. She tells me, "No, they said no, I have to print my text email coupon I don't know what...they told me this text message code is worthless, won't work. We gotta go" I was frustrated because my mom is mild tempered and won't make a fuss about anything. She was confused, why would we be given a gift card to check out a car but be turned away because of...? I walked over the clarify the misunderstanding with the same salesperson. Within a few minutes, I was told "Just tell me your here for the money..."do you really want to see a car? There's so many 'OTHERS' just today who just come for the money...". FINE OKAY GOOD FOR THEM WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH My MOM?! I told him, "Hey whoa, look Braaah, everyone likes 50 bucks including my mom, of course your going to get people that have no intention of buying a car anytime soon, but we really ARE looking for a car..". I'd never been told that before. Yeah of course I jump at free stuff, but we're at a dealership looking for a 30k thing, 50 bucks covers a thread of rubber whisker, those that coat new wheels. Who the hell are you coming at me like this. He took my address, email, phone and the code I was texted from the official Subaru website. He wanted an email I received about the gift card. Okay. Just show the code to the salesperson. Easy! "Somebody will get back to you in a week or two". My Mom is off looking at a SUV type car. She really wants a SUV. I always thought Subaru would be a solid choice, I'm not so sure now. I turn back to the sales guy and he say's "I'm sorry but I am done with the day, I hand you off to..." another salesperson. This guy is nice, patient. I don't bring up the gift card or anything. He take's his time. No pressure to buy. We look at multiple Outbacks. My Mom likes the camera's, I like the collision protection system. We leave. My Mom is 65 year's young, she's worked for the Los Angeles County Health Services ensuring the public get's the food safety they deserve. The respect your taught everybody deserves. Our family have lived in the San Fernando Valley for over a 100 years. My grandmother worked the orange orchards where the 405 now stands. Maybe it was just a bad day, I don't care. "I hear you, the gift card is generous but we've got to get some business done first okay? Come let's look at a car or two, let's sit down, let's go for a ride, see what your Mom likes to drive. Our cars can be fun!". I'm a fly stuck on a wall in the best dealership in the Valley. We don't want to be profiled on any basis, including whether or not we're packing a gift card code. PERIOD. *UPDATE* Corporate office got back to me within a day and reassured me that this all really did suck. Thanks. I'll try another Subaru dealership.
