Dropped my kittens off here while we were visiting Monterey for the weekend. When I went to pick up my kittens on Sunday, I arrived at 9:55am to avoid being charged a late pick up fee. When we arrived there was a dog who had just been dropped off for daycare but was having a difficult time getting in the building so the worker had to console the dog to get him inside. This took about 5-7 minutes. By the time she was done with the dog and was getting ready to check us out it was already 10:15am. I was then charged a fee for not picking up my pets by 10am when I tried saying something the workers there handed us our kittens and their stuff and pretty much shut the door on us. How can you charge a customer a late fee when your employee was the reason we didn't get our kittens until after 10am?
I really had a great experience the first time I dropped our lab off with HAFH. The owner was very friendly. Our dog is a happy, bubbly lab. He has never showed nervous tendencies and gets along with everyone! He is intact, which they said was no problem and it was an extra 10 dollar a day charge. No problem. We left him there two separate times within a week of each other. We went to book for a last min. trip and was told no problem they have room. As I received my booking confirmation I noticed there was an extra 10/ charge for over threshold. I called to inquire, when I spoke with the receptionist she informed me they told my husband that our dog was barking not normal barking and we would be charged extra because of the extra labor involved and that he has to be in a separate yard with only a few other dogs. What???? We have never had this behavior from jack, nor at his last boarding place (which has now closed). She informed us they told us of this when we picked him up last. Never happened( and if it was a problem why didnt they email/call me during his stay?)I then asked more questions, telling her I noticed a spot on his nose that has scabbed. I asked if he had been in an altercation with another dog. She said no but that can happen when dogs are trying to claw out of their kennel at night. Jack has never had this happen either. She said he was placed in a standard kennel (he is an extra large dog). I asked how long they are in their kennels for at night and she said about 11.5-12 hours. WHAT!!! I was floored. I immediately cancelled my reservation. I had spoken to some other people who I know locally who left their dogs there, the more I found out this seemed to be a common occurrence. I was so upset. If my dog was left in a kennel for 12 hours, and then isolated from other dogs, Im sure he would bark! Long story short, I will not be leaving my happy loving dog there again. I hope this review provides a preview of what happens behind closed doors. I will definitely be doing more research before I board my dog other places. P.S. I even text the number (which I was provided to text) to check up on jack. I asked how he was doing and they responded Great!. This whole thing seems very fishy.
Joel and his staff are so loving and friendly. Molly, our anxious Shi Tzu mix, has spent time at Home Away from Home for both daycare and boarding. She leaves happy and excited; she even runs back behind the counter to say goodbye to Joel before we leave. Their grooming services are top notch too! Molly comes home fluffy and smelling wonderful! I couldn't be more pleased with Home Away from Home, specifically Joel and his wonderful staff.
First and last time well ever drop our dog off here. They had no idea whats going on and didnt feed my dog all day. A couple of the staff were decent but the rest are rude and clueless.
