Overall the experience was a bit underwhelming considering the cost. Expected a bit more out of the experience compared to the cost of pouring some essential oils in hot wax. What I am most disappointed by is the quality of the candles. We made 2 candles and they both have the issue of tunneling badly, and yes we burned for long enough on the first burn. When lit the melted wax barely moves a way from the wick and tunnels worse than a cheap candle I can get anywhere. Disappointed at the overall quality of our candles and experience for something that was on the pricy side. The candles smell good but the quality leaves much to be desired.
Ms. Ammara, Thank you for giving us a review. We will update our website with an experience page that will help customers know what to expect when they come to pour custom candles and the options to make other home products especially in situations of time constraints. We hope this will help our customers have a better understanding of what we do and offer. Snowflakes and other shaped candles sound like a lot of fun and while we'd like to explore those options, unfortunately, we only use natural soy wax which is softer in texture compared to paraffin wax blends other candle makers use to carry such products. Soy wax wont hold its shape on its own which is why we offer different colors and sizes of jars to pour in. Soy wax is also a healthier alternative to paraffin wax in that it does not release dangerous carcinogens into the air when melted like paraffin wax does. We strive to bring good quality products that are safe to be used around family (fur babies included). For the wait time, we would love to speed up the process so there is no wait time. However, they need time to bind and cure so your candle will burn properly and give off a consistent fragrance. There is no way to shorten this process without compromising the quality of your candle. For any out of town guest, we offer diffuser and room sprays as alternative options because they do not require any wait time. Please give us a call or email us. We want every customer to have a fun and pleasant experience with us. If we didn't meet that expectation, we want an opportunity to make it right for you. Thank you, Elm Candle Bar

Came here for a date night and was honestly expecting more of a "hands on" experience. We entered and were told to choose our top 3 scent choices from the 80 different scents on the wall which was a fun little experience smelling a bunch of different candles. Then we headed to the shelf section to choose our candle holders made from glass ranging from $27-33 each to pour our candle mixture in. You can also choose from diffusers and sprays which are slightly cheaper. Then we went back to our station where they had hot wax already heated for us and we just measured out our top 3 scent oils and we added it to the hot wax and were done and yup that's it! For a $30 candle making expereince I was expecting a little more to the process like choosing different colors for the wax, or adding different textures like snowflakes to my candle and also would have been cool if they had different candle structures to choose from for the wax. There was a place in San Diego I went to where you could choose the shape of your candle and the colors and scents so you could have like a moon candle or a snowflake candle which was pretty cool. But yeah this place was pretty boring in terms of actually "making" a candle and doesn't really give much time for you and your date to bond either. Anyways cool concept if they expand on it further. Also another bad part is you can't take the candle home right away and have to wait for it to cool down for about 2hrs. There needs to be a faster process for people visiting from out of town or if you don't live in the area its really hard to come back to Capital Hill find parking and pickup your candle. My friend was visiting from Portland and wanted to take his candle home but they closed by 9pm and we got there at 7:30pm so he won't be able to pickup his candle for a few weeks until he is back in town, but ideally there needs to be a faster cooling process for people to take home their candles. Just an idea! Oh and they do hold your candle for 6 months but honestly who is really going to remember picking up a candle after a week even. Staff here is very welcoming, nice and knowledgeable so that's a plus! The location in Capital Hill is great and the place itself has a nice open feel to it but only street parking is available.
Decided to take my gf out for a date and reserved for two; BEST date idea! Make your own candle or wax, a genuine "one-of-a kind" scent! The layout was amazing, love how many choices that were offered. I also love the process/experience that took place; first you get a clipboard and write down your favorite scents from the ones offered on the wall, then circle your top 3 and then sit down and begin to create! The staff was knowledgeable in scent combination as well (very helpful). 5/5
