I was extremely displeased to hear of the treatment of my classmates during their stay. There were incidences of prejudice throughout the entire trip. People of color were treated so poorly they had to find new housing. This is unacceptable. Camp hope? More like camp nope!

CLOSED. The government ruined it trying to make a profit off of volunteers. The entire staff told the mayor Craig Tafaro to shove it and walked out. After all volunteers did for that parish and that is how they treated their people. My advice is to go somewhere else and help people who really need help.

If youre prepared to spend a week at Camp Hope get ready for an experience youll never forget! Bedrooms include sturdy beds, an inoperable AC system, two fans and carpet surrounded by white brick, tie-dye curtains and inspirational wall stickers. And we couldnt forget about the showers! At Camp Hope, first-class facilities are available to guests including a lovely set of washers and dryers, and showers filled with mosquito corpses and mold-infested shower curtains. Dont forget your shower shoes! As for meals, Camp Hopes chef has it going on! In the morning, a Lincoln-continental breakfast was offered every single day featuring over seventeen varieties of cereal - and dont you worry your little hearts, they do have Cocoa Puffs. Theres also microwaveable grits and oatmeal and decaf coffee. For the week, you are offered the opportunity to make turkey and cheese sandwiches with a selection of chips, carrots and fruit to eat during lunch. When it comes to dinner, are you in luck! The chef makes anything from beans and rice, to spaghetti, and I couldnt tell you what else. But who needs authentic New Orleans cuisine when youve got Chef Boyardee by your side! Besides these fantastic offers, volunteer groups are also assigned chores! And God is goodto those who are Christian-based at Camp Hope. While non-religious groups are assigned to clean the dishes after dinner (even if they didnt eat there) and to clean those glorious showers mentioned from before, a Christian-based group was only required to clean after breakfast - a meal with little to no attendance. Another fantastic example of Southern hospitality and good old-fashioned favoritism. So, please, if youre looking for a place to stay that offers all of these fantastic accommodations, then Camp Hopeless is your destination!
