Dear Taylor, Firstly, we are very sorry to hear about your grandmothers health. We regret deeply that you did not feel support in this difficult time. We had understood that discussions were still ongoing between you and Ligaya (Head Office Manager for Kenya). We have offered you to return to Kenya at any time to complete your project, and advised you on insurance claim options. Unfortunately we cannot offer you a full refund as we are not able to reclaim costs made for your project. This is why we recommended insurance which we believed would cover your additional flight and curtailment costs and we would be happy to help you liaising with them. That said we would like to continue to discuss your options further. Our Operations Director would like to speak to you at a convenient time. Bethany Evans

I spent just shy of 3000 with projects abroad and committed to 2 months volunteering in Africa. I had to leave after 1 month as my grandmother got sick and they refused to give me my money back for the month I would not be there and just said well we have already paid for the accommodation now. I have been back 1 week and my grandmother has been given 6 weeks to live. Projects abroad told me to claim through the insurance and they are making it incredibly difficult for me to get the money back for the month I am not there. They have had doctors letters explaining how she caught an infection, a letter for when the ambulance was called out whole I was in Kenya and also a doctors letter advising that she did not have long left to live. And they still make it incredibly difficult for me to get MY money back. I would not recommend volunteering as this organisation simply care about money. You go to a deprived country to help and support people in need yet it is not returned. Not while youre over there and getting blisters on your hands as you are working so hard mixing cement to create floors for schools and not when you have to leave early due to a family crisis. I will never use Project Abroad again and I will be advising people against it should they show an interest. Inhumane & disgusting experience.
I taught English in Sri Lanka for 6 months and had a fantastic experience. Was looked after really well by a caring and very loving host family organised by Projects Abroad. I felt very safe in Sri Lanka, we were always in contact with the staff at the destination. Overall a great cause. Great staff, wonderful to have people of different cultures and backgrounds from around the world all with the same mission.
Projects abroad offer a wealth of experiance to volunteers. They showed great communication at all times from the prep through to the flight home. I was well looked after at my destination and I always felt safe. I'm sure all the staff there are fantastic, Chris Eddy answered my most recent queries politely and promptly. He is a great asset to your team. Stu
