In the first week my power went out, no hot water in the bathroom, loose deadbolt locks that had to be repaired, no water pressure in the kitchen, washing machine didn't work, and the rent is extremely high given the space and all of the additional expenses. UPDATE: It got worse- PLEASE READ The water in the bathroom froze more than three times over the winter months. The only solution I was offered was to "keep the faucet water running" at night because it would cost the company a lot of money to fix it. The dry rot in the walls and other structural elements resulted in railings on the front porch falling off and a towel rack that just fell out of the wall. The rack itself also broke when it hit the bathroom floor. The heating bill in the winter was in excess of $200 per month, and I didn't keep the heat cranked up either. I put a winterizing plastic and heavy drapes on the windows, but the curtains would visibly billow when the wind blew outside. The rear bedroom, which I assume was a late addition, was constantly freezing cold. I could not get the temperature about about 58 degrees over the winter. Additionally, my lease included a clause that tenants were responsible for snow removal. Any tenant who did not contribute to shoveling would incur a $50 charge. There were three other tenants in my house, and at least two more in the property next door. I had to do all of the shoveling myself and the terms of the contract were not upheld for any of the other tenants. At one point I was told that they "would try" to get the other tenants to help with the shoveling. I also received no consideration in lieu of having to do all of the work myself. I also received a bill for the front door that was broken down in July by the Milwaukee Police Department while I was living there. My apartment and door were not damaged in any way, and I was not arrested or charged when all of this occurred. A couple of days ago, I received a bill for more than $900. The original door was, by the way, repaired and re-hung. I find it hard to believe that it costs almost $1000 to fix a broken door. Oh, and the invoice sent to me lacked any descriptions or identifiers for each itemized charge. A series of unidentified serial numbers were the only descriptors included on the bill. I also found it odd that this bill appeared suddenly after I submitted my notice to vacate the apartment. Finally, because of my honest review of my experience the management company threatened to charge me for the keys if I returned them on Monday 10/1 instead of Sunday 9/30. The property manager said he would "let" me return the keys on Monday "if [I] get rid of my negative Bartsch Management Google review." I said that my review was "accurate and truthful." I made a list of issues with the apartment so that other tenants would be aware of these problems. I was promptly told to remove the list. I was never told any of these problems, and I assume that they are not intending on informing the new renter(s) either. I always paid my rent on time and caused no problems during my tenancy. I thoroughly cleaned the apartment and aside from blinds that cracked from routine opening and closing, and an old wood-tile floor that cracked in a couple spots from walking on it, the apartment was in better condition that when I moved in. I had to clean the thick layers of dust and debris on the crown molding and trim. I feel that the charges and actions taken at the close of my rental period were malicious and used to justify not only keeping my entire deposit, but to also get additional money from me as "punishment" for my truthful review. UPDATE: After paying the additional fee they charged me, I found out yesterday that the company sent me to collections. I paid everything that owed them and more over a year ago, and somehow, a year later, they are still trying to get money from me. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!

This inexperienced and poorly run management company by Brian Bartsch preys primarily on duplex owners in above average rental market areas of Milwaukee. I can declare with proof that in living next to an Eastside Bartch managed property for five years that its management strategy is to sell an owner with promises of success while they pull in desparate, low paying student tenants to overfill a house, which later becomes the party house on the block and that the police work hard to deal with nightly noise disturbances and drugs. Subsequently the tenants last a few months before it is once again filled with the same, leaving the police to ultimately manage with routine arrests and citations that owners are required to pay. The reasons for this company's failure is that they do not adequately screen their tenants, nor do they demand cosigners. The ultimate blow to the owner is when the property later becomes a police issued "nuisance house" situation, which is the final outcome of their ponzi management operating scheme. Stay as far away from this company and its management tactics as possible. Milwaukee is filled with great property management companies that have good reputations, integrity and proven success. This is NOT one of them!
