I suspect our 7/2/22 visit was an unusually off night for this restaurant and am conflicted about writing such a negative review. I decided to post this review because I would have appreciated this information before dining there last night. In the very least, a bad meal would not have been a surprise. The positives: the space is lovely. We sat outside and it was great. They did a very good job of distancing tables and all staff wore masks. Our dining companions enjoyed their zodiac roll appetizer, which looked yummy. I wish I had ordered that. Instead I ordered the chirashi bowl, which is a bowl of sushi rice with a variety of sashimi on top. I order this dish often at Japanese/sushi restaurants. Typically, slices of sashimi are beautifully arranged on top and decorated with thinly sliced veggies and other goodies, so that the whole dish is a visually striking contrast of colors and textures. The artful arrangement and presentation are a big part of the dish. Alas, what I received was a fairly small bowl of unusually bland sushi rice topped with a layer of small cubes/chunks of 4 different fish, a few small pieces of pale, pickled ginger in the middle, and an even smaller blob of wasabi (which not freshly grated). The fish were tuna, salmon and two types of white fish - one very mild and one I'm pretty sure was raw scallop. Most servers tell you what each fish is, but ours did not, so it was a bit of a mystery. No veggies or thin slices of citrus. No color. No crunch. No texture. Nothing but small bowl of raw, predominantly white fish cubes, on top of bland white rice. Based on this and other snafus, I would not be surprised if the chef was not in the kitchen last night. So how did it taste? The salmon was nice. The tuna was kinda bland, nothing special. One of the white fish, as mentioned, was very mild. Not memorable but not unpleasant. And the second white fish, what I think was scallop, tasted ... unpleasant. To be clear, it did not taste or smell like rotting fish. But it didn't taste good to me either. I'm a pretty adventurous and not-picky eater. I have had raw scallop before and know that it's not my favorite. On a good day, it tends to have just a bit of funk to it and the texture is firmer than most fish. So things went like this: First I popped a few little cubes into my mouth together and thought, "Huh, I wonder if it's really supposed to taste like this?" Next, I plucked out and tasted individual cubes, one by one, so that I could taste each type of fish on its own. The one I think was scallop didn't taste good to me. It also tasted like something many other people would not enjoy. Definitely not a crowd pleaser. So I ate my salmon cubes and most of the tuna, not particularly enjoying any of it, and left everything else. So how did I feel about 1.5 - 2 hours later? (I'm sure some of you saw this coming.) Not good at all. I have had food poisoning before and this very much felt (and still feels) like food poisoning, albeit a fairly minor case. If it's not food poisoning, it's a stomach flu with ironic 2-hours-after-I-ate-dinner onset. I'm pretty certain something in the chirashi made me sick and I'm glad I stopped eating once I realized I was not enjoying it. So what is the morale of this long story? The setting is great. Nothing I ate, or watched others eat, seemed particularly special (which - at this price point - one would expect). I may or may not have eating something that has had me back and forth to the bathroom since last night and subsisting on saltines today. My advice - if you go, order light, enjoy the setting, and try not to be disappointed if the food and presentation are nothing special. I hope this was a one-off experience. As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, I am ambivalent about leaving such a negative review of a restaurant I've only visited once and that some people clearly love. I hope you have a better experience than we did.

If there is a zero, I would definitely do it. I made reservations before hand, but they still ask us to wait and there are two more group in front of us. The doorman was not nice at all. She passed everyone else the drink menu but us after check in. Literally ignored us, but welcome others. As an Asian, I felt discriminated. After 20 minutes waiting without being served, I left. Since I moved to NC, this is the worst restaurant I have ever been. Blacklisted.

Easily the best restaurant in Cary, and perhaps in the Triangle. Inventive, flavorful, always excellent. This is the place to take a date. Not that pricey considering the quality. Easy to park usually. Beautiful old house in a wonderful part of town.

Well the restaurant is probably a good one but the sushi bar should be closed. If you ever went to a sushi restaurant and ordered chefs' choice of 12 pieces sashimi & sushi, you are expecting 12 different kinds of fish. But here you'll only have 4 kinds of products for $50: white fish, bluefin tuna, bluefish(if i remember correctly), and salmon, all of which are cheap and low quality (well it's at least fresh) stuffs that you can easily find in any Asian grocery. And the chef put the thinly cut (as apposed to what my waiter advertised) sashimi directly on a rice roll, just to call it "sushi". If that's your understanding of "sushi", then you should probably go work for the sushi bar in Harris Teeter. Btw you don't need to go to NYC to learn what is top notch sushi. Just go to any specialized sushi/Japanese restaurant in the triangle area. You'll see at least what makes a sushi chef "qualified".
