I am extremely sad for my son because his first year as a Young Marine was utterly chaos. I read so many reviews of people praising their unit and thats not even closed to what we experienced. The lack of organization and communication persisted through out the entire time. Every meeting was Do we have the flags? Is the commander coming? At one point, the meeting was canceled but they failed to contact the parents. We didnt have a graduation because the commander didnt have the right uniforms. How do you plan a graduation and not check if you have the right size uniforms?! We got dismissed with We will mail them to you! You can clearly see the lack of commitment and passion they have for these kids. Staff,If you have too much on your plate, do as all a favor and step down so someone else can step up. At this point, is better to go without an unit then to have one and give them your leftover time. Those boys and girls were there every time there was a meeting giving their best and all they got to show for it was a half way apology.

Former Young Marine here, I cannot stress to you enough how harmful this program actually is. Ive been diagnosed with PTSD because I was living a military lifestyle throughout my childhood and now as an adult it affects my every day life. They claim to teach your children discipline and integrity but its through abuse, yes abuse, because psychological trauma and forced physical activity is abuse. I would NEVER allow my child to go through this program because although it may seem to be helpful, the long term effects are devastating. I wasted 7 years of my childhood and I will never be able to forget what I went through as a Young Marine and it will take years of extensive therapy to start to heal from it. If you truly love and care about your child, do not let them attend this program and see it for what it really is, militarization of children and no child should ever be exposed to that. For credibility I was part of the Eagle Young Marines in Camp Pendleton, California from 2007-2014 and it was the biggest mistake of my life.

I recommends this organization to everyone highly because this organization teaches you so many thing and qualitys you would need for the future. It prepares you for the outside world. This unit has so many benefits there are so many cool things you can do and learn.

As a young marine, so far Ive grown far beyond I could ever comprehend, its really amazing what the program has offered and provided for me, I am truly grateful for everything, my unit has taught me very well and they are like a second family to me, I always look forward to seeing my brothers at young marines again and cant wait till next drill, Semper Fidelis.

My son has been in the Young Marines' program since he was 8 years old. He is now 15 years old and still loves it! He has learned and grown so much as a leader. He has had opportunities to travel, teach others classes on drug awareness, speak at different events, meet veterans to thank them for their service, learned proper work out routines, and much more! We can't say enough about the experience he has had. We look forward to the next few years he has left with the program.
