At the core of our work is a partnership with homeowners to build quality housing that will increase property values and create more affordable options for renters without changing the character of the community. The bill you mentioned (SB1120) gives homeowners more choice when it comes to financing an ADU on their property. We think giving Californians this kind of flexibility is the right thing to do and ultimately creates more opportunities for altruism whether that means folks choose to provide shelter for a elderly family member or install a rental space for tenants in need.

United Dwelling has not provided accurate information on SB1120 on their site. 1120 has no exclusion for high fire zones, it requires set-backs that are less safe than local ordinances and has no affordability mandate. Mr. Dietz is building homes like any real estate speculator and this bill allows parcel splitting without having to build a single unit. If SB1120 were serious about affordable housing, it would have the same designated affordability mandates (40%) that we have when other projects seek density exemptions - but that is not the case here.
Called on about a radio advertisement the person I talked to didn't have a clue of the add, promised that she would check into it and call me back and didn't.

United Dwelling is an exceptional program! For months I interviewed contractors to assist me in turning my garage into an ADU. A number of them had great ideas; however, their prices were well above the budget I wanted to spend for the actual build out. I learned of United Dwelling through a great friend who happens to also be a real estate agent. He put me in touch with Leilani. I hit the jackpot! I reached out to her and she got back to me immediately. From first contact she was extremely professional and thoughtful. Because this is a new ideal I was skeptical but from our first meeting I knew I was in good hands. She walked me through the process and gave me some time to think about how I wanted to move forward. She didnt push. She was thoughtful and patient. She scheduled an appointment for me to see one of their completed units and I was quite impressed. I decided to move forward. From the moment I signed the contract to this current moment Ive been completely satisfied with her support, handholding and professionalism. I highly recommend United Dwelling. Neighbours beware. Our neighbour decided to get a United Dwelling ADU in her backyard and of course we wanted to cooperate with her. United Dwelling asked if they could take down our side fence as well as an arch attached to our house and a side gate because they needed to bring in a crane. Naturally we were wary but they assured us that they would replace everything. They dug up and destroyed many of my plants that were along the property line and they mostly replaced them, although not all of them. They replaced the fence and they did a nice job, but instead of replacing the cement arch and gate they tried to bribe us with money until we agreed that we didnt need it. They have still not given us a check (for $1500) for not replacing the arch and its been over six months. The side gate they built has since fallen apart and we now have to replace it out of pocket. The crane cracked our cement. They also took over 5 months to replace our fence and side gate. If you have dealings with them make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing and/or involve your lawyer.
