I bought a Sense device at the end of 2016 for my new house, paying about $250 for the device and $150 to have it installed into my electrical panel. I thought the device itself and the app were nicely designed. I had high hopes that the product would perform as it was advertised: providing insight into the power use in my house. The company represented that the product would use machine learning to "learn" all of the various devices in my house from their unique power signature. But over time I found that the device was only partially successful at best. Despite years of use it never learned more that about 2/5 of the electrical devices in my home. In some cases it would get confused by devices that used different amounts of power at different times (like my heating system and coffee maker, which it thought were different devices). At other times it would find devices and I would confirm the make and model of the device, only to go back later and find that the device was forgotten. Or it would confuse previously identified devices. The company first encouraged me to give it time to work. But there wasn't every any improvement. At some point they suggested my device was not working correctly and worked to reset it. But the results were the same. it was only then that they disclosed that the Sense unit "might not work in all houses." I really wished they had disclosed that before I invested money in a device that is worthless. But during that time I provided free data to this company at my now expense. I believe that Sense units are not ready for market. They don't work and the company knows it. I regret purchasing this device. It was a waste of money and did not perform as it was advertised.
Great app! I can see real time production vs consumption with my solar system. Amazingly accurate, you can see when AC/Drier/Hot Water heater kicks on and off. Allows you to put in a $/kWh so I can see if I'm actively banking or spending money based on my solar production. Excited to see what new things they come out with as the app develops!
I have had a great experience working with Sense the times that I have contacted them and my Sense unit has been working great! The energy monitor is extremely useful for keeping tabs on your power usage especially when you are away from home.
It seems their support issues are still there. Support is unresponsive and not providing a phone number to call makes having any issue very frustrating. I have been using the monitor for a while now and was happy with it. When an electricity outage makes it go offline and you can't bring it up online after you do all that they recommend online, makes for a very bad user experience.
