I wish I could give less then one star here. We have been residents for 2 years and this place is not only a rip off but has extremely stressful conditions here with poor management. Here is my list of problems throughout the 2 years that our family has had to go through.. 1. Excessive loud fire alarms that go off at anytime. Usually during the late or early mornings when your asleep they go off about once a month or twice . And has never gotten any better. 2. Security is inadequate, we had our truck and bike stolen in the garage that we pay $ 160 for a month. The security guard , security camera did not see it. How does a huge truck get stolen from right beneath you and not even the 24 security camera not see it? 3. A sprinkler system went off in my childrens room for no apparent reason . They got wet and the fire alarm was going off. 4. Cheap appliances that break easily. 5. Rude neighbors that never say hi to you. They look almost scared that other people exist. Not recommended for anyone worth children . 6. Be prepared to loose your packages, have them stolen and have to pay a fee If you dont get them over 24 hours. 6. Managements is new, never in the office barely picks up the phone calls or is even present during normal business hours. Not to mention they are rude and also never greet you. It feels like your in a corporate office not a home . 7. They increase the rent every year as well 8. My least favorite, the elevators often do not work. We live on the 5th floor and one time they were broken for over a week. With two kids we had to go up and down stairs walk all across the other building to use the other elevator. If you are handicapped, this place does not cater for you in times of emergency.
Hi Paul, Thank you for your review and feedback. We strive to provide a community in which our residents are happy to call home. If you are open to a meeting we are happy to set one up to discuss all concerns and our current progress on specific items. There is always room for improvement and we will take the above and use it as a tool for growth. Thank you, Domain Oakland

I've lived at Domain for about 10 months now. I can't wait to leave. If you like to live somewhere where the elevators never work (one set of them has had one down since August or so, and the other sometimes works but often hasn't since July - it's November), where your packages are occasionally lost, where sometimes when they're updating their systems they take away your door access and garage access and you can't get in, where the residents often leave trash outside their doors and commonly leave the trash rooms a disaster... you get the point. With the property manager, a common refrain is that whatever your problem is isn't their fault and is out of their control. And when I moved in it was cheaper than other places around, for which the reasons became obvious, but the rates everywhere else in downtown Oakland have come down to be similar! So look elsewhere people, Domain is not where it's at.

I absolutely love it here, it has everything you'd want in a community. Coworking space, gym, yoga room, rec room, sky lounge, several barbeques, parking, loading dock, private mailboxes plus package lockers and an entire other mailroom for packages. The staff is very friendly, and all the common spaces are kept very clean and sanitized. Theres a digital community to network with your neighbors, and everyone I've met here is great. Some families, some working professionals; very diverse crowd with many little furry friends running around. I applied online and was approved the same day. RaLonda, Rebeca and the other staff were very professional and kind, and generous with their time (as I had a hundred questions to ask). I really have no complaints at all. So glad I found this place!

I am looking to move to the Bay Area. The staff at domain was really friendly and the property was well kept. Located close to a lot of things.
Hello Tessa, Thank you so much for your review we take every review as an opportunity to grow. In regards to the fire alarms we are working closely with the fire department and fire life safety vendor to fix and ensure that the system is functioning the way it supposed to. The fire alarms are really loud and mind piercing because that is how the fire alarms work. They are supposed to ensure your safety and able to wake you up just in case there is a fire. Again we are addressing this issue right away and is our number 1 priority. I am unsure if you are receiving our mass emails in regards to the fire alarms, we are sending communication out to everyone each time we make progression and or change anything. However I would love to discuss further with you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me Hello, Thank you for your review as we take all reviews as a learning opportunity. We have talked before by my name is Jonathan and I am currently the new manager as of 2 weeks. I have been sending out communication about the fire alarms the last couple of days. We are working closely with the fire department and the fire life safety vendor to fix the system fully. We do understand that the fire alarms impact work from home schedule or the alarms going off any time of day or night that is why my number 1 priority is the fire alarm system and ensuring our residents can relax at home. I would love to discuss this with you please give me a call at 510-788-4614 or email me directly at [email protected]. I am here Monday through Friday 9am to 6pm Thank you again, Jonathan Jose Senior Community Manager

The false fire alarms are bloodcurdling. We didnt believe the issue could be as bad as past reviews said, and now we seriously regret moving here. The alarms go off on average 3x per month. Sometimes, theyre blasting for the whole day every hour. Last night, they were howling starting at 1am and through the next day. Mind-piercing, insane alarms at 100 decibels that go on for 5-10 minutes until the fire department arrives. Its damaging our hearing-- I can't imagine the permanent mental and physical problems it's causing for pets and children. People are leaving to stay in hotels!!! No reimbursement. The bureaucratic management team is incapable of fixing it or communicating. They are nice, but they just talk in circles and apologizing without actually getting anything done. This is the case with anything aside from the alarms too. For example, the new gym reservation system is discriminatory and confusing to navigate. Residents are complaining non-stop, there are TONS of reservation software solutions on the market, yet zero change. Just excuses, apologies, and useless emails. DO NOT MOVE HERE!
