Very disappointed, I have purchased 5 new builds over the past 20 years and the recent experience with building a new home with Tralon/Saint Aubyn was the worst experience I have had thus far. We purchased a Presidential Series home, which Tralon is currently selling in the mid $800K to high $900K range. For the cost of their Presidential homes, I was expecting a little more attention to detail and customer experience. Communication from the sales/building office was poor throughout the build, they pushed our closing date multiple times without telling us, missing our planned closing date by 5 months, forcing us to spend over $25K in unplanned expenses for temporary housing and extended household storage. I understand that the current market lends to unpredictability, but they started numerous spec homes after our contract date and completed them months before ours. Building oversight was horrific with countless items that were missed during the building process that we had to point out; cabinets being hung without sheetrock behind them; sheetrock hung without insulation; archways framed at the wrong height; outlets not placed in right locations; doors hung to open in wrong direction; drier vent not installed to code; wrong sink installed; wrong stone on fireplace; wrong doors hung; incorrect paint color; wrong banisters installed; wrong deck flooring; not stuccoing the deck columns; not honoring what they said was included in the Home Automation Package; and on and on. Almost every mistake was caught by us. Workers were even urinating in the basement corners and sump-pump pit, throwing garbage in HVAC vents. Even after being promised that they would Thoroughly clean and detail the home before closing they didnt even clean the home, we came home after closing to a house that was still covered with construction debris, dust, and mud all over the floors, there was even dried urine all over the storage room floor and wall insulation; they told us they couldnt get a cleaning crew out to clean until three days later, which meant we had to spend an entire day cleaning the home, to include cleaning up urine, because we had movers scheduled. We have been in the home for over 7 months now and there are still items from the walk-through check list that havent been completed. The one positive thing I can say is that their warranty manager, Mike, truly seems to try and get things taken care of; even though he is working with low cost/quality trades and has a lot of homes he is trying to fix. For the price, there are a lot more builders to choose from that have a better reputation. If you are considering building or purchasing a Tralon Presidential home for close to a million dollars, please read on for some pointers to help with the process. If you are building, whatever timeframe they give you, dont count on it. Their priority is on their Pikes Peak series spec homes. If the sales rep tells you anything that is included or you wish to change, get it in writing. Demand a walk through at every step of construction with the building manager. There was very little construction oversight, most the errors during construction were caught by us walking the home on our own. Have some flexibility in a closing date. They were frantically trying to get things completed even up to the day of closing, which resulted in rushed work that was poor in quality. If they say theyll complete items after closing, just push the closing date and get them done prior. After closing, the motivation was gone to complete items. Pay for a home inspection. There were numerous items that were caught by the home inspector. Take your time and do a thorough walk through, inspecting every inch of the home. Some warranty claim items they will not honor because they say they should have been noted in the walk through. Bottom line, the quality of the home is fair and the customer service experience is poor, which for a home approaching a million dollars, I would expect more.
