Camelot is certainly a great place for many children with special needs. HOWEVER they are not equipped to deal with autistic children who sometimes become aggressive or use unacceptable language. I know this from my own experience of having my two grandchildren, both of whom attended Camelot happily for many years, kicked out of the summer program during the first week. The professional staff did not attempt to work with the parents to correct the problems. They just booted them out because they found them too much to handle. This was the only excuse which they could give for their actions. As a public school teacher in Philadelphia for nearly 20 years I learned that the way to deal with difficult children is not simply to kick them out. (A luxury which we as teachers did not have.) The thing to do is to contact the parents and enlist their support in changing the behavior of the child. Compassionate professional people who work with children should understand the importance of second chances and working with parents. Such cannot be said of the professional (their word, not mine) staff of Camelot.

It's been a little over a year now since our Granddaughter has been a part of the Camelot family. The services they offer the children are second to none; plus, it is all at no cost to the families and the range of activities and services are expanding. The children feel like they are a part of something and they are accepted for who they are, which in some cases is a new experience for some of the children. If you are looking for an organization to donate too, I can't say enough about Camelot for Children; their Board and Staff are heavily dedicated to the well-being of the children which is rare in this world.

Camelot for Children provides wonderful programming for children with special needs. As a speech therapist who works with children with a variety of disabilities, I know firsthand that parents are often looking for a safe, comfortable, and fun place to send their children; I always recommend Camelot. Camelot has an amazing volunteer staff who work extremely hard to ensure that every child who comes to Camelot has a great experience. They are consistently successful in providing the welcoming environment that so many families are looking for (many children have been involved in Camelot for 10+ years). Thank you Camelot for your dedication in ensuring that every child has a place they can call a second home!
