As a local, family-owned business, we strive to provide both high-quality, well-tended plants along with expert, professional advice to all of our customers and we regret that you feel you did not receive the answer that you desired. We have been in business serving our community for 20 years and have had the same guarantee policy in place to protect you, the plants, and all of our customers. Our plant guarantee policy can be found on our website and is posted in our retail store. We also provide verbal explanations and printed copies to any customer who requests one. Winter hardy plants that are purchased in our retail store and planted by the homeowner are covered under our 90-day guarantee. If the plants are installed by our professional landscape team, we offer a one-year guarantee for the plants themselves. We are always happy and prepared to answer any questions or concerns about which plants will thrive in your specific environment and how to properly plant and care for them to ensure establishment and survival. In return we ask our customers to also acknowledge and accept their role and responsibility for the potential success or failure of the plants once they have left our care. All that being said, if there is an issue with a plant from our retail store, even after the 90-day guarantee has expired, we want to make it right. Thats why, as a courtesy, we always offer a 30% off replacement discount on a new plant to our retail customers who suffer the loss of a plant purchased from The Plant Kingdom after our 90-day guarantee has expired. We extend this discount as an offer of goodwill in the cases in which we have not had the opportunity to plant something from our retail store ourselves and therefore have had no control over the plant, its management, or its care since it left our possession. While we wish we could offer onsite visits, as you mentioned, we know they are rarely useful. Once a tree or other type of plant is completely dead, it is very difficult to determine the cause of death; all the signs and symptoms of a potential issue that may have been visible while the plant was still living are gone. We apologize if there has been any miscommunication and again we are very sorry for the loss of your tree. The 30% discount on a replacement tree is still available to you. In April of 2017 I purchased a Coral bark maple from the Plant Kingdom in St. Matthews, we took very good care of this tree as we have all of our beautiful landscaping and have never lost a plant to any neglect. In the spring of 2018 we noticed that the tree was starting to appear somewhat sick and thought that maybe it was the harsh change in seasons, unfortunately the tree died as the picture shows. Before this situation reached this point I contacted the Plant Kingdom and they stated that their policy that the tree had a 1 year guarantee if they planted it and 3 months if I planted it, "Sorry" at the cost of $197.00. I made another call a little later and spoke with the owner who finally said I will give you 30 percent off, if you want to replace it with another just like it. I feel that some could have reached out to me and maybe offered to take a look at the tree and give me their opinion of what they thought might have caused this tree to die, but no one offered. I feel the tree had issues unbeknownst to me and in my opinion I feel that the Plant Kingdom has very high prices and no and customer service when something like this occurs. I just lost $197.00 and will never consider the Plant Kingdom for anything, they could have followed up with me if they truly care about repeat business rather than just "Sorry" but they didn't.

Dear Nicole, We appreciate you shopping with us. The Plant Kingdom is a retail garden center and so we specialize in assisting retail clients in choosing appropriate plants for their homes. Landscapers, such as yourself, are welcome to shop in our retail store but we are not a re-wholesale business. We expect fellow industry members to understand that we are not set up to serve landscape customers in the same way as our retail customers. It is my understanding that you had two team members, Jade and Tony, assisting you during your shopping experience at our retail store. When I encountered you, I was actively assisting a retail customer who had graciously waited for me to finish with another customer; therefore, with respect to the retail client I was working with, I swiftly addressed your question and continued to serve my retail client. As you know, May is busy for everyone in the horticultural field--Saturdays especially!--and though I am always happy to help landscapers, we simply cannot drop our retail clients to fill out paperwork without any notice. We prefer to conduct trade business during the week or by phone, not when we are actively helping our retail customers. We handled your request appropriately and put your plants on hold until the proper paperwork could be filled out for the necessary tax identification and Kentucky state sales tax authorizations. I contacted you promptly on the following Monday with the contact phone number you gave us. I left you several voicemail messages in order to complete the process and discuss your google review but I have received no response. We are happy to assist any landscape professional and respectfully request that all landscape professionals choosing to shop with us complete the proper paperwork prior to making a purchase, particularly during peak times and seasons.
