Its taken me a year to process what they said about my daughter. I am a teacher in Pinellas County Schools and I whole heartedly believed that place would be a safe and non-judgemental environment for her to attend come middle school. Shes always been in self-contained ASD classes due to developmenal and language delays and sensory issues. She has never ever been a behavior problem or needed a one on one assistant. They had her interview as part of their process before they accept a child into their little elite school. I had to leave her there completely alone in a brand new place for a day for her to shadow with other students and teachers. I can only imagine how much anxiety and fear my daughter experienced just having to do that. Any autism parent knows that kids on the spectrum dont like change and do not respond to it well. I received a call from the principal days later to tell me theres no way that they could take my daughter because she would need a one on one due to her behavior and they dont offer that there. I was in shock. I couldnt even process this. My daughter is sweet, funny, hard working, and all of her teachers at Bardmoor Elementary can attest to that. After thinking about all of this, and having had other students of mine that got accepted, I figured out what they are looking for. They only want your kid if he/she is medicated to control any possibility of outburst, anxiety, or unfavorable responses. They want them docile and compliant. Being that its a private school they can cherry pick the ones who they think will make their school shine academically and those who wont ever panic or express fear or anxiety. They want the kids who are zombies due to medication aimed at keeping them calm. I still have one year left before I have to find something for middle school for my daughter. Im hoping my school adds a unit by then, and then maybe I can feel at peace knowing shell be safe and not judged for being a girl with ASD. I know of other public middle schools that have units, but I also know the teachers, and Im not happy with any of them. Ill be looking for something private or even virtual school before I send her somewhere where the teachers hate their job and complain about their kids. Anyway, good luck to anyone who gets accepted to Lift. I really wished my child was good enough to fit their standards based on a one day observation, but Im hoping it was a blessing that she wasnt.

This school is so unique to all other schools. They take into consideration what the students need to succeed! I have been at lift academy for 5 years and 1 year at the university! This school has changed my life in so many ways! I love that they figured out how to get us all on zoom so we can see each other

Parents, dont waste your time with this school, unless you want to waste time. The diploma is not worth the paper it is written on. I know two people that graduated from this school, attempted to enroll at PTEC, and PTEC said the diploma will worthless.
