I generally love Modern Shoe. They have great quality shoes, a wonderful selection and kind and knowledgeable staff. Prior to this last experience, I'd give them my highest rating. I returned a pair of shoes over 48 hours ago and record of the transaction still has not shown up in my account. I called yesterday to inquire about the delay and I was informed that it usually takes a couple of days. Come on, Modern Shoe. The moment the goods are back into your inventory, the money should be back in my account.....

Thank you for your review. Customer satisfaction is our #1 priority. It seems there may be a misunderstanding. We have a 60-day return policy on shoes returned unworn and in the original box. It is fine to wear them on carpet in your home to make sure the fit is right. All sales are final on clearance shoes and are non-returnable. When you came into the store, you did not bring your shoes with you. You indicated to me that you had purchased shoes that were on clearance and you knew they were not returnable. I told you that you were correct that all sales are final on clearance shoes. When I mentioned arch supports you turned around and left the store. I thought maybe you were going to get your shoes and bring them in so we could work with you. You chose to not come back in. I had no idea what you had purchased. After researching, I found that the cost of the shoes you had purchased were $135.50, and they were not clearance shoes. It would have helped greatly if you would have brought the shoes in with you. You chose not to do that. I suggested arch supports because a lot of the time that solves the problem. We have some complementary insoles we can often fit people with. We are willing to work with you to get these shoes to feel good on your feet. Feel free to call for a private fitting appointment with me and I will see what we can do. Tony

Been loyal customers since moving to Utah County in 2008, from Minnesota. My wife began buying high quality shoes here 1st; even though she is a penny pincher, she came to Modern Shoe to spend more on shoes, purely for foot comfort. I recently spent over $200 at a September sale, including around $180 for very beautiful leather dress shoes, which turned out to be extremely uncomfortable. No padding or arch support became more and more onerous, the Ionger I stood in them at the wedding festivities I attended. I understand shoes which have been worn a couple of times can't always be returned. However, I hoped to at least arrive at some sort of accommodation or partial refund, store credits, etc., with Tony, the owner, to whom I was referred by a store clerk. 3/15/21 - Response to response from owner Hey Tony, appreciate your response. Thanks for the correction - If the shoes were only $135, I must have spent much more on the ancillary items than I thought. Still a lot of money for me, but I had a history with Modern Shoe and wanted to support local brick and mortar. Maybe it was just a bad day for you, but, in my opinion, customer satisfaction didnt seem to be the vibe. To help you remember, I informed you my shoes were in the car and that I would be happy to go get them. That didnt appear to matter to you on that day. (Why would you think I was going to get the shoes out of my car, after you indicated they were unreturnable?) Your policy was no returns on sale items, and you made it clear that retrieving my shoes from the car would be pointless. Your mention of arch supports further emphasized your indifference, since it involved a further purchase (from you, I assume), as well as an implied agreement that a very expensive pair of shoes had no business being so bereft of any insole padding or comfort. I was told at the time they were on clearance/sale. Had you been more interested in resolving the issue, I feel you might have offered to look into it right them, rather than after an unflattering review. Having been a business owner myself, I had expected a more professional and solicitous demeanor, especially after previous experience with the gracious attitudes of the employees. Again, I appreciate your effort at responding. For a couple on a tight budget, we spent a lot of money there over the past 12+ years. Tony's indifferent attitude to a decade-long customer included a suggestion to put inserts into a $180 shoe. He had no concern whatsoever that I was dissatisfied with spending what to me was an enormous amount of money for subpar comfort, in a very nice looking pair of shoes. His disconnected approach and indifference left me feeling a little betrayed and I left the store, determined to find a different shoe source. I am big on supporting local merchants, but will make an exception, in this case.

I had called just three weeks earlier to verify that Modern Shoe did resoling of boots and shoes. I was told by them that they did Then yesterday I went in with a pair of boots and pair of shoes. The employee had the nerve to tell me they quit repairs a long time ago. The old man retired. That was LONG before I made the phone call Lousy service, seesawing in their responses, not forthcoming with suggestions about what I can do. When I finally asked then they gave me a referral. LOUSY service. I wish I could give them negative stars on this response, but they will NEVER get any stars from me. I'm going elsewhere from now on. I had to give one star just to post or else there would be none.
