After much searching, I found a perfect, high quality Greek fisherman's cap in black leather available on this site. After placing the order, 7 days passed without so much as an order confirmation or updated status of the order. After inquiring about this, I was finally given an order confirmation number. After another week of waiting, I was informed that the item was out of stock until the following week, at which point they would send me the item. Upon arrival, over one month since my order was placed, a hat arrived that I can only describe as a costume accessory. In fact, I have since found the hat online sold as as just that - a costume accessory - for $20 (I was charged $78 plus shipping). Aside from the black color, not one feature of the hat resembled, even slightly, the hat pictured on their website or the description that accompanied it. The leather was fake, the accessories were not metal, and the cord was a cheap rope, and there was no listed manufacturer (only "Made in China"). Even the shape was not the same and looked cartoonish. I had no other choice then to send the item back for a return AT MY OWN EXPENSE of $15 shipping. Perhaps they are simply not good at selling merchandise online, in which case they should stop doing so, or at least refrain from lying to their customers about the quality of their products. This was the worst experience I have ever had buying a hat in my life, and customer service didn't do much to help. How they have been selling hats since 1921 with these business practices is baffling. My only regret, other than not ordering anything, is not taking photos of the poor excuse of a hat that I was sent to serve as evidence of its embarrassingly low quality. Dissatisfaction is an understatement, and I will never buy from John Helmer Haberdasher again.

Best customer service in the whole city. Not kidding. Sales staff has somehow nailed the perfect balance of being available, and helpful, while at the same time, you feel free to explore, like it's your own private closet. I walked in on a whim about a month ago, and asked about a hat for my abnormally large head: within a minute I was sized up, and looking at some really great options. Interestingly, the first one that was suggested to me is the one I took home - both the size, and the vibe matched me perfectly. Five stars for that!! It's my new fav :) My gf took home a great new hat too. Very knowledgeable staff, and excellent products. I felt quite welcome. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town. Thx JHH!!

Went in with a Panama hat in mind, received excellent service, was shown and tried on a number of brimmed hats of various materials and styles. Ended up with a stylish Panama hat I can wear and my wife liked.
