Last April I bought a pair of Justin "waterproof" western work boots at Whiteside's. Within a month, one boot was tearing at the seams and no longer waterproof. I took them back to Whiteside's and they offered to repair the boots for free, which unbeknownst to me negated the manufacturer's one-year warranty. I was not informed of this, and another month later the boots were leaking water again. I took them back a second time and Whiteside's again patched them for free. They lasted a few more months and I was back to wet socks. When I took them back a third time, they offered me another free repair but said that as far as a replacement went I was SOL. I asked if they could at least discount me another pair of boots, and after conferring with a manager I was informed that they'd be willing to sell me a new pair of boots at full price. I contacted Justin's customer service, and they informed me that because the boots had been altered by Whiteside's they were no longer covered by warranty. So I'm out almost $200 on a pair of work boots that should've lasted for years, and I'll be buying my next pair elsewhere. Caveat emptor, I guess, but it's something to be aware of. Don't let anyone alter your equipment without knowing the consequences.
