Although Readorium has been built with good intentions, there are some flaws that not only concern me but also other potential users and students looking forward to using this program. One example can be seen in the monetary system. Students can bully each other based on the amount of money each has, and although that might encourage competition, it leaves potential students with negative feelings and less motivation to learn. In addition, this might be personal preference, but in the years that I had Readorium, I found the mentor system and raps unhelpful, albeit only slightly entertaining to watch. Back then, I couldn't catch myself up to the speed in which the person was rapping/talking, which detracted from the learning experience. Overall, this program has great intentions to get students to read, but the execution is yet to be improved upon. Seeing all of the other comments leads me to believe that Readorium is a hit with teachers using the program, however the same cannot be said with the students. Perhaps the source of the problem can be found there.
Readorium takes an engaging approach to complex texts in the sciences. Students are placed in a supportive environment that provides motivation for all students. Having the right amount of support at the right time is critical.
Speaking to teachers/instructors who have used Readorium in their classroom, there's no denying in the program's power to help kids understand science. Readorium frames its lessons in scientific concepts and non-fiction reading strategies through a game environment to help kids stay engaged with the material. I wish I had something like this when I was a kid.
Readorium is just a bad program in general. There are many other websites that teach more effectively and creatively. I suggest this website to be reconstructed, and make it more suitable for all.
