Unfortunately, the internet allows "fake" people to make unfounded reviews and untrue statements, which is very sad, the internet has a very dark side, as most of us have witnessed. We did have a Sanctuary Director who did allow Jungle Friends to go downhill, she was removed, along with several other staff who did not seem to care about cleanliness, as I do. After spending thousands of dollars fixing the damage, our rodent problem is under control. As far as veterinary care, we have an amazing veterinary team and we have not had any deaths due to neglect, and that is easily proven. Fortunately, with my oversite, and some may call it micromanaging, we have turned Jungle Friends around and the place has never looked better and has certainly never been as clean as it is right now! We have hired subcontractors for maintenance, mowing, cleaning, well, come on out and see for yourself. We have volunteer opportunities every day, all day, email
[email protected], we would love to have your volunteerism! Anna Claire was a diabetic monkey who lived here at the sanctuary for many years, and died of complications with her diabetes, an insidious disease in which humans still die from. We have numerous diabetic monkeys, mostly from the "pet" trade who were being fed a poor diet, not enough excercise and stress. We have had many diabetic monkeys who are now off insulin due to the care received at Jungle Friends.
Jungle Friends has the potential to be a great place. However, the choices, decisions and treatment of staff by the executive director, which are condoned by the lackey board, have put the monkeys at great risk. A toxic environment has been cultivated over years and generations of caregivers and monkeys to their detriment. Health conditions are spurred on by veterinary neglect, lack of hygienic living conditions, and such high turnover that they dont receive adequate care. There is a rodent problem that includes rat poop in the food prep area. The lack of providing appropriate medical care for the monkeys has sometimes resulted in young deaths. With a new executive director and board, this place can be turned around and become a wonderful sanctuary once again.
