My experience at this church was not of love, acceptance, and community or communion. My experience left my heart hurting and feeling displeased for the personal agenda that was worked into the "sermon." The "sermon" spoke of shaming people, segregating and only accepting Christians, no others count. And if you happen to be transgender, well this church sees you as unacceptable. I did not hear the words of love and grace or of forgiveness. Jesus accepted, loved, and helped EVERYONE. He did not speak in terms of hell and damnation, but in terms of hope, acceptance, forgiveness and love. The message of Jesus that this place preaches is not a Jesus I'd ever want to know.

Carol, were sorry to hear about your experience. Its really unfortunate that you only visit twice a year. Were confident that were you with us more consistently, you would have a much better context of what is spoken about week-to-week. For example, you might have missed what was shared just recently about how the generosity of the people of Gateway was used to help transport several Ukrainian Jewish families to Israel. Just this past weekend, our pastoral team spent some time talking about if and how we should respond to all the recent news of some high-profile moral failures and scandals surrounding other pastors. With great unity, we likened it to being on a date with a loved one, but being so distracted by the noise and activity of whats happening in the background in the restaurant that we miss out on the intimacy of the moment with our loved one. The way Pastor Preston put it was this: Never let the volume of the noise and chaos out there be louder than the voice of your Heavenly Father right here. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, although we would have preferred you share it with us directly before making such a public statement. Might we suggest that, to your point, part of how the church got into the mess its in might be due to the Body of Christ forgetting how to relate to the Body of Christ in a healthy manner, which would reflect Jesus words in Matthew 5 that if we have something against a brother or sister, we are to go to that person? We would most certainly welcome the opportunity to meet together in person. Please introduce yourself to us next time youre with us.

We always go to this church when we visit Phoenix twice a year. Normally love the message. BUT Thursday nighy April 7th this message was very disappointing. With all the chaos going on in the world your highlight was on the sin of comparison. We agreed this is a sin. But the pastor must assume that he's talking to all practicing Christians believers and people that walk in salvation. To give a message telling us to not worry about what's going on with one other and just be tolerance. IS HOW THE CHURCH GOT IN THE MESS WE ARE IN TODAY. I felt you were preaching to a holy huddle. Give the saints something that we can go into battle with. If a persons house was on fire, would this message give me the impetus to wake them up. Look around the world is on fire at hell's gate.. Give us impetus to wake up the sleepy Christian.Wake up Gateway Church. Praying for our Shepherds start leading again.

Gateway changed my life and brought me to Jesus. The worship prepares your heart to honor our father and the message is always relatable. They take of their community and make everyone welcome. No better church in town.
