Elk Meadow Storage has always required a security deposit in the amount of one month's rent when a customer begins renting a storage bay. This is clearly stated during the process of renting online, and is clearly stated in the contract, which is online as well. There is no way the customer could have not known about the deposit when renting and paying online as this woman did. The deposit is refundable upon vacating the storage unit, provided no garbage is left behind and the rent is current. The deposit is not to be used as a month's rent, but is a security deposit. All this is again very clearly itemized on the charge card totals before the customer enters their card information and authorizes payment. The woman who posted the negative review called me after she rented the storage bay and attempted to get out of paying the deposit and have that money go toward the next month's rent. I adhered to the policy - she was upset - and she chose to rent elsewhere. I refunded her money immediately. It is always a good idea to read and understand the documents before we agree to them.

As a single mom who just lost her job and having the stress of putting her whole life into storage and staying with family to get her feet...renting a storage you'd think would have been easy n smooth compared to the other stress. This lady, once I asked why there's a deposite and explained that I misunderstood that there was such a large deposite, you'd think she'd been more polite let alone after I explained why I asked and was upset would have also been a lil EMPATHETIC! I'M NOT ASKING FOR ANYTHING BUT AN ANSWER OF WHY. I don't appreciate being told to calm down when I wasn't even that upset but more trying to figure out the amount taken off my bank card. I did ask for a refund because that deposited is very high and every where else is not and I get a gated protection in them. I'm sorry if you're business has had issues with being trashed but you shouldn't take it out on me. You don't have my business or anyone else's in my life. I hope you'll be more nice and empathetic towards the next persons who try and rent from your business. You never know who the person is that may be in big need of your business and if they have had a devastating loss at the moment.
